Hurrah! I survived my first week in my new job :) And even though I loved it, it was pretty exhausting as these things often are at first. But enough of that, because guess what everyone? Yes the red cups are here and I can officially move into my far too early Christmas preparation mode. I've had my first delicious Dark Cherry Mocha and it was heaven in a cardboard cup. And lots of Christmassy things seem to be coming together this week, so just for this update (at least til much later in November) I'll be getting my baubles out for you all and get my festive frisk on for this year's very first (of many no doubt) Christmas themed post. Hurrah (and boo you grinches who aren't ready for this yet :P)

TWEET THE WEEK:

  • As everyone and his bloody dog knows by now, the Pet Shop Boys are releasing a Christmas EP based around one of my fave festive tunes It Doesn't Often Snow At Christmas. Not only does it have a new version of that song but a studio version of Viva La Vida mixed with Domino Dancing! Amazing much? It could well be the second time that a Viva La Vida cover tops my charts this year. I'm positively kvelling. For full details of the EP see quality write ups at the always reliable Chartrigger and Vinny Vero :) Now would it kill Erasure to do a Crackers International 2?
  • Also getting ready to debut their now traditional Christmas singles are The Killers (with the fascinatingly titled Happy Birthday Guadalupe) and George Michael (as yet untitled - as far as I know - but the follow up to last years December Song) - I'm always appreciative when acts do these little interim releases inbetween albums :)
  • Who I'd like an annual Christmas single from: The Feeling did Feels Like Christmas last year and if they were to make it a yearly thing, I'd quite like that actually, yes I would :) Ditto St Etienne who did the insanely marvelous I Was Born On Christmas Day many moons ago. And double ditto Maroon 5 who did Happy Christmas (War is Over) some years back but could easily whip out a nice festive rock tune or ballad. Just a suggestion...
  • I'm anxious to go and see Disney's A Christmas Carol 3D at the IMAX around the corner from my place. I'm a bit torn - do I go now even though even I feel it's a bit early or do I wait til closer to the celebration of the birth of Santa but feel antsy from the wait?! Or I could go twice. Decisions decisions. It does look proper marv though...
  • Only one week til Matchless by Gregory Maguire is released in the UK :) (That gives me a week to read the new Adrian Mole which I picked up today. First edition too - I'm so anal about getting those :P)
  • Finally, not very festive but I couldn't be more happy that Same Difference have signed a new record deal, are releasing a tweaked version of Pop (or Pop2010 as I know call it) worldwide and are working on a new album too. Go to D'Luv to hear a clip of the marvelous Souled Out that I blogged about here. In fact let's post that pic of me with them again :)

Haha - Bring on Pop2010! - Awesome title!

I'm glad you survived your job, and you should totally take yourself to the cinema (twice!) now as a reward, and once closer to Christmas!

Beautiful photo and imaging how awesome it would be if Same Difference did an annual Christmas single????

Interesting sounding coffee too!

That is a very festive and attractive hand holding the Starbucks Redcup one has to say.

One also has to say what a fine piece of photography in the count down to Christmas.

As always a superb blog...let the Love Actuallyesque countdown to Christmas commence.

7 weeks to Christmas....

:-)

I saw my first Christmas commercials on TV this week, so I guess it really is that season, as far as marketing goes. I'm not really a coffee drinker but I may have to hit up Starbucks just to get a picture!

Wonder if the Killers song has anything to do with the Virgin of Guadalupe (I think the matching celebration is in December, though I could be totally wrong on that)? Or it could just be a total coincidence.

"Souled Out" is still sounding fantastic--I can't wait to hear the full thing!

Woop! Glad your enjoying your new job. That Simon Curtis song is pretty cool! No surprises its atop your chart lol

J - thanks. I think i made the right move at the right time, jobwise ;) And yes, it's my 3rd Simon number one following on from Broken and Put Your Make Up On (Resist, Pop Messiah and Another Heartache all made #2!!)

Simon - thank you for the compliments on the photo taking!! Personally i think the thumb looks massive on the cup :P :P :P But you know what they say - big thumb, big...!!! LOVE ACTUALLY! Sigh :)

Aaron - Pop2010 i am so looking forward to, even if it's only a couple of new tracks, though my personal opinion is that they should take off all the euro-covers (e.g. I Need A House, etc) and replace with new songs :) And you are right. I should hit up the cinema :)

Poster Girl - no idea, re: The Killers song but I really like your theory :) And you know I'm going to need a copy of that red cup picture :P Plus, yes I absolutely need a full SOuled Out. I suspect it would be challenging Simon for the top slot!

Nikki - well yes is my short answer. Though I won't be blogging Christmas again for a while :P At least a few weeks!!

CAssandra - actually i've been on at Simon for years to do me a Christmas song :P Maybe one year :)

Ben - hope your cranberry and orange muffin was all you dreamed it would be :)

A1 - I know! Amazing EP from the PSBers! I'll definitely buy it but i'm hoping it leaks a little bit before the release date :)

I'm not a follower of Christmas music but I think I'll be considering listening to some of yours. BTW, The Feeling's 'Feels Like Christmas' was awesome. :))

Finally, Simon got to #1 of your playlist. Love the song, I hope I'll never get tired listening to it.

and thanks to the wonderfully done acoustic version of the SPell. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

How come no one is buzzing about the new Will Young single? I think it's fabulous! And the video, cracks me up! =) Ohhh, lovin' the acoustic version of The Spell. Congrats on the new job!

Red cups! They are a bit more maroon this year, but still lovely. And I cannot wait for the PSB X-Mas package. They had me at "It Doesn't Often Snow At Christmas"...

Ken - well Christmas music isn't everyone's cup of gingerbread latte but i do adore it. And there are always some pop gems floating around :)

rc ~ yes i'm sort of confused by the lack of William love. He's been number two on my chart for ages, yet he's not really made a big splash with this song, he's not on the x factor - its all quite sad really. Talking of which, wouldn't now have been a great time for the return of Shayne Ward?

Yuri - well I share you massive excitement for new Pet Shop Boys. It could be MY Christmas number one :)

rcLoy said...

Woots, I wouldn't mind both of them, Shayne and Will, my faves. =)
