Ch ch changes...

Birthdays are often weird and as you get older, increasingly introspective. Sometimes that can be bad. Instead of celebrating all the ace things you've accomplished, you start looking at all the things you haven't yet achieved and start wondering where the years have pissed away to! I've become incredibly *antsy* lately about lots of things that seem a bit out of kilter to me - blogging, work, pet projects of mine, etc., and really just need to get on doing something about it. This takes time and commitment though, so something has to give. So this isn't a "woe is me, i'm quitting" post - i'm just scaling right back. I'm going to try and stick to one blog a week (probably the update format on a sunday) and use the free time on other things. Hopefully you will stick around, because as slightly bored as I am currently of blogging it may be just a phase and I'm trying to think of something different to do with this site. So sign up to google reader and follow me on twitter (which means i've now totally abandoned facebook and myspace. One social networking app at a time for me - i have to spend time with non virtual friends too :P) - and here are some of the things I'm planning on doing:
  • More piano! I'm grade freaking 8 for crying out loud. Or at least I was. I don't play or practice nearly as much as I used to, so I need to get back into that as I am finding it harder and harder to just sit down and belt out a cabaret version of See You Again :) I may become a bit little bootsy and start doing weekly cover versions too, only (mercifully for you) without the singing :)
  • More work! Though not really. Thing is, i really like my job. And a project i've been working on has really paid off (something to do with the use of plants and environment benefitting people with dementia) and so i'm busy writing all of that up into a coherent format for an academic journal. Fancy! And terrifying!!
  • More writing! Good gravy. It has been floating around for a year now with revisions here and there. It's nearly ready. I just need to listen to some advice of people who know better than me, finish up the changes, formulate the plan and launch "Disco Lemonade" the novel onto the world. Please buy a copy. I'm not above granting sexual favours (although possibly not from me :P)
  • More friends! And not just the two episodes that air every day on E4. Ruthie and Lou are getting married. Kirsty is pregnant. Justin needs a new kitchen. Bernice has invented bubblewrap fetish underwear. Hannah I haven't seen in far too long. Simon needs a Twilight intervention. If i pull my finger out, Cat and I will be "human again" soon. Richard needs a hug. See? lots to do. God, i love them all :)
THINGS THAT HAVE KEPT/KEEP THIS BLOG GOING:
  • Simon Curtis! There hasn't been an onslaught of new music from him just yet, but i live in hope. And frankly I can dine out on Alter Boy for a long while yet. Only yesterday I was rediscovering the joys of Left Right Left. Fortunately he has written the ace new Candy Coated Chaos single which is available on iTunes. Utopia indeed.
  • Deborah Gibson! She's been busy! Doing benefits for her gibsongirl foundation. and making movies about sharks that look entirely dreadful but utterly amazing at the same time. She needs to hurry up with that album though...
  • My obsessions - the feeling, same difference, the killers, maroon 5, bwo, take that, robbie williams, girls aloud, mcfly, shayne ward, mans zelmerlow, kylie, madonna, erasure, pet shop boys, little boots, marina and the diamonds, elouise, ace of base, alcazar, the chiffons, and so many more. God they are good :)

See you Sunday!!

  1. There's a lot of re-prioritizing going on right now. I don't blame you one bit. Be well, and do what you need to do.

    Oh...see you next week!

  2. I would be sad--more Paul is a good thing--but this sounds like a decision you're happy with and will have a lot of real benefits for you, so I'm happy for you. Very relieved that this is just a scaling back and not total end, though! Just always feel free to break out of the one post a week thing if something ever really gets you excited :D

  3. Probably a good idea, though I'll miss your blogging. I'm sort of feeling the same way with my blog--just so much to do, so little time. :)

  7. Thank god it's not the end end. It sounds like you have a good plan for what you want to achieve and that is always good. The novel sounds intruiging, and i look forward to your little boots covers :P So to speak.

And more fizzypop language like good gravy, sweet blossom russo, boo you whore, etc. Yes they may have come from other places but you totally made them your own!!

  8. Paul, we have more than a love for Liza showtunes in common!

I feel the same way. My forced break from blogging kind of opened my eyes to all the shit I should have been doing instead of photoshopping Girls Aloud into a dumpster!

It is a very time consuming hobby. But it has it's perks - like me enjoying the fact that the Katy Perry penned "I Do Not Hook Up" is currently in your top 21!

    See you soon

    X

  9. Ben - i actually have had a good think about what i want to achieve by the end of summer and something had to give. given my boredom of blogging lately, this was the most obvious thing, but - as i said - i still want to keep my hand in as it were :)

Mike - i know. i feel dirty for liking that Kelly Clarkson song. At least i have the abba hotel song now instead :)

  10. You know I'll be hanging around, whatever you decide to do. I think it's commendable to set your mind to do "non-internet" things. Good for you. Have some fun whilst you're at it too!
