Snap, Crackle (Fizzy) Pop: Weekly Catch-up July 5th 2009 (London Pride Special!)

Gather around I have a story to tell... Well I don't really, but I'm absolutely shattered from London Pride yesterday so I am going to whizz bang fizz pop through all this dead quick like ("thank god" - everyone who reads this)! Here are a few very brief highlights from Pride and some more pics here...
  • The drive down was ace thanks to my brillo soundtracking. Frankly the London Boys doing London Nights on the way to London Pride seemed a bit obvious but it worked :P
  • As did the love for True Blue by Madonna, which got a right rip roaring singalong going in the petit voiture. Sometimes the shiny eyed, romantic, optimistic songs are the best :)
  • I think my hayfever tablets are still making me a) delirious and b) insane because at the services, I bought an ice cream. For later. Which i then put in my pocket. Because that makes sense.
  • The parade in London was very stop starty. The floats were generally quite good, even though there was some religious nut at the end going very red bellowing about god hates sinners into a microphone. I like peanuts. I like macadamia nuts. I do not like religious nuts.
  • Luckily Boy George swannied past on a float which was much louder and shouted at him "God loves everyone. We forgive you. We forgive you. Now go home!". Ah Mr O'Dowd, sometimes you still entertain.
  • It was pondered why the skin heads behind us with the scary looking lesbians weren't enjoying the parade. Turns out they were actually the National Front stall people with their wives. Oh my.
  • The main stage was generally entertaining in Trafalgar Square. There is a lovely picture of a man with a large arse crack and a bra waving hairy arm pitted woman in my photo link. That is the sort of people that are attracted to the supposed cultural epicentre of this great nation :P
  • While in the main stage area, burning like a crisp (although Darren kindly explained that just because I have sun block on doesn't mean the sun can't make those areas of my skin feel hot. Generally agreed by the gang that this was on level of stupidity with not knowing reindeer were real :/), I realised i like the Cascada number one song. For a few seconds. Mein Gott.
  • Tina Cousins sang Sex On Fire. It was not very good. Neither were her legs :S
  • The Pink Singers were quite good though. I love choir versions of pop songs. Their 70s melody was proper bonza.
  • And of course Elouise was entirely amazing as I knew she would be. One Night Only won over a tired crowd, and her new song Another Day was appropriately inspiring, epic, uplifting and delivered with such conviction and passion that I had goosebumps on my arms. Quite literally breathtaking.
  • We then had a kentucky and went home :) The end.

  1. True Blue is a fantastical song and sounded perfect for your trip soundtrack. And how funny you guys were lumped into the "Bi" section! LOL

  2. So why was there a Nazi stall at Pride exactly? Scary!

I haven't been for a long long time (too many screeching and clucking noises for my delicate ears) but at least it gives washed-up 90s popstars a bit of work one day a year.

  6. I have yet to be won over by Little Boots, Jordin Sparks and The Dolly Rockers. At least Industry moved me!

That Lily Allen song is absolutely brilliant. It's like Sesame Street-ish but when you hear the lyrics you're like "Ooooookkkk," hahah.

  7. Great pics... vare happy and gay! I wish I'd been there :( I know they don't have much money for Gay Pride anymore, but was the line up as bad as it appeared? Sandi Thom headlining?

  8. Yuri - i have a renewed appreciation for True Blue. Played back to back with Cherish, it's a deliciously bubbly summer twofer :) And hehehe, we weren't lumped in the bisexual bit, we were just standing under that bit of the banner that read "Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered" :)

DanUK - well i think the jesus people and the nazi hitlers stalls were there as protests on the parade cos there were loads of police (ie, 2) around there stalls!! Not too many 90s washed up popstars this year. Although Tina Cousins was rather unrealistically introduced as having countless top ten hits. Er, I can count them all. 3.

Will - it was loads of fun :) And KFC (Kentucky fried chicken, not some weird sexual position :P)

Totoro - it was the bum crack that just kept on giving!! I was shameless in my picture taking.

Bobs - hurrah! And the clip of Another Day is on her myspace. It's the Elouise Monday that keeps on giving. Still obsessed then, obv.

Nikki - well yay to you at least being won over by Industry. I suspect their second single will be the icing on the cake for a lot of people!! And that is the best description of the Lily song i've heard in ages :) Kudos!

Phil - the line up (apart from Elouise, Priscilla, Avenue Q, Dolly Rockers and a new act i really liked called Suzerain) wasn't great. Scooch were there, but they will attend the opening of a packet of crisps. Good grief. Shame you weren't around...

  9. Hehe - Sounds AMAZING! Loving your soundtracking, but personally would have chosen Ray Of Light....That would have gone down a treat!

Amazed that you don't like Sex on fire, and you don't like Cascada (well, I can get the next one) - I'm a huge fan!

  10. Tina Cousins! That's great. I love how the has-beens show up at pride (I saw Crystal Waters at DC pride a few years back). Thanks for sharing the other pictures too. Looks like a lot of fun.

  11. Aaron - Ray of Light probably would have gone down well but didn't quite work for that moment. True Blue came on, the skies were clear, it was lovely and sunny, everyone was feeling a bit lazy and it just worked :) And actually depending on my mood, I don't mind Cascada. I am particularly enjoying their interviews where they say they wrote the track over a year ago so Lady Gaga stole from them!!

ADH - it was fun :) Tina Cousins was not :/ Still she put her all in!!
