There's something quite refreshing and pleasing about amazing pop-rock group Northern Vibe. In a world where beeps, bleeps and studio wizardry seems to be the key tools that propels today's pop acts to the top of the charts, it feels almost forward thinking and revolutionary that Northern Vibe relay on engaging lyrics, memorable melodies and lush instrumentation to reel you in. Their new single, Timeline, is an utter charmer from start to finish. Lyrically, it's the story of the emotions that consume you when that one person comes into your life who just changes how you view the world; for better or worse you are destined to be forever governed by the experience you have with them. Drew sings with such passion, such commitment and (at times) such elegiac pathos that the sentiments he commands with his nuanced delivery feel tangible to the listener, almost as if you could reach out to your speakers and grasp them from the air. It isn't so much him singing, as him chanelling all his experiences, wishes and dreams into a mesmerising performance that makes the song a breathing piece of musical art. He's ably surrounded by a band who are symbiotic with his outpourings - whether it be the chiming of the xylophone, the mellifluous nature of the keyboards, or the sheer vibrant energy of the guitar riffs (the latter instinctively knowing when to hold back to add texture and when to amp up the volume to power the narrative forward). It's a glorious wall of sound that washes over you, like the cool waves of the brightest blue ocean on a hot summer's day. That chorus is a gift from the pop gods as it effortlessly insinuates it's way into your brain, refusing to vacate. If that sounds sinister, it's not - it is a welcome gift that is more satisfying than an endorphin rush of pleasure. Northern Vibe are a band who clearly know their way around a pop song and infuse their music with words we can relate to and refrains we won't soon forget. And if this wall of glorious sound wasn't enough, the visuals are equally as quixotic and pleasing, matching the song with an elegant grace. Can't wait to hear more from this talented band...
