The Waiters - The Way That I See You

Regular readers of this little corner of the internet will know that I'm a sucker for a boy band. Over the years, it's become an all encompassing term for any guys with a hint of youth who play music that is likely to appeal to the masses - regardless of which genre the sound is influenced by. As One Direction wind down, there's certainly a gap in the market for something new and invigorating and ace foursome, The Waiters, seemed poised to launch themselves stratospheric with their punchy new single The Way That I See You. Sam, Martin, Jack and Dan have built up quite the social media following thanks to exciting YouTube videos that not only demonstrate what capable and competent musicians they are, but also highlight how their songs are infused with their individual personalities. If you are unfamiliar with the quartet then The Way That I See You is an excellent introduction to their sound. It's a bold and brash, exhilarating pop-rock creation that's fueled forward by blistering guitar riffs and a propulsive percussion, both of which combine to leave the listener a little breathless. It's the ideal musical backdrop for the song's lyrics - a narrative that describes that all consuming feeling when you find love when you were barely looking for it. There's an exuberant and lively vocal performance that brings these emotions to life, coalescing with the music to provide a euphoric pump-your-fist-to-the-sky-and-sing-along-with-unabashed-glee style chorus (that will leave you with an endorphin rush that will linger for days). It is whip smart of the lads to marry the exhilaration of the music with the theme of love taking you by surprise - it makes every note and beat feel as indelibly part of the story as the words that are sung. It is the type of song that makes you glad to be alive - not just a love letter to love, but a love letter to the pop songs that have inspired this effusive ditty. The lads eschew trends and fads, focusing simply on killer hooks, enduring melodies and one kick ass performance. Bloody brilliant.
