I'm always excited by a new Debbie Gibson collaboration. She's had some pretty dynamic team ups over the years - duets with Ana-Jane Casey, Chris Cuevas, Peabo Bryson, Jordan Knight et al, vocal team ups with acts like the Alessi Brothers, O'Neil Brothers and Big Black Delta (not a comprehensive list). Now she is back on the Billboard Dance charts (see link above) thanks to her providing the voice for Sir Ivan's latest single, I Am Peaceman. It is a song with a message - Sir Ivan hopes to raise awareness about gun violence, yet his words go far beyond that; he promotes a culture of love and kindness, surely something we can all do with in our every day lives. Like the best social anthems, however, it doesn't feel like he or Debbie are preaching to the world. It is swathed in summer time, Balearic beats that make you want to sway your hips and submit to the all compelling groove. Sir Ivan's deep, commanding tones play nicely with Debbie's sweet pop pipes, wrapping around each other with mellifluous ease, like ice melting into lemonade on a hot, balmy day. It all crescendos from the first verse into a dominating chorus that lifts your spirits, sends a dopamine rush to the brain and has you shimmying with your arms in the air like you just don't care. The irrepressible refrain infuses your heart and soul with good vibes, elevating your euphoria levels past seventh heaven, by cloud nine and into the great pop utopia where addictive grooves and unforgettable melodies abound. The electro-saturated instrumental breaks between chorus and verse let the song breathe and bring a frisson of excitement and exhilaration to the song. It leaves the listener feeling giddy and satisfied, the type of song you'll want to immerse yourself in over and over again, all summer long and beyond. There is a certain, giddy thrill hearing Debbie on this contemporary jam - reminds you of her contribution to dancefloors across the world over the past thirty years. Magnificent.
It's a great song with a beautiful and talented and inspiring woman, Deb rocks
