Doryan - We're Alive

Category is effervescent Pride pop realness and rather splendid singer-songwriter Doryan is bringing hooks and grooves for days on his sparkling new single We're Alive. Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, the song is a glorious celebration of what it means to be LGBTQ+ and a reminder that we, as a community, should be standing shoulder to shoulder, lifting each other up in all our unique splendour. Set to a radiant piano riff (my favourite instrument on planet pop) with a percolating percussive rhythm, the score instantly gets your fingers clicking and shoulders shimmying to the decadent beats and swirling melody. Doryan has always been an expressive singer with a voice custom made for euphoric anthems such as this and he does an exquisite job of not only making it a rallying call to arms, but a jolly good sing-along that makes everyone feel welcome. It is sung with a wonderful sense of camaraderie and beautifully produced by the talented Jamie Sellers. For example, there are moments before the chorus where the beat fades away and Doryan's voice seems to echo just slightly, as if traversing the crowds to inspire everyone individually, making the drop into the deliciously catchy refrain all the more exhilarating. Throw in the best middle 8 since Lady Gaga flirted outrageously with Judas and it is one delectable treat that will give you the power to get through the rigours of the day. Utterly sinsational.
