Snap Crackle (Fizzy) Pop: Weekly Catch-up April 19th 2009

Highlights from the week:

  • Darren and I spent the day at Alton Towers yesterday. It was full of people in tracksuits and lots of gold jewellry. And bad kissers. I know this because in the queue for Hex (rubbish) the couple behind stood so close to me that I could smell their breath (not great), see the saliva between their lips (nasty) and hear their slurping. I studied their technique intensely hoping it would make them uncomfortable (as I basically felt like the inevitable third wheel in a threesome) - it didn't. She was a rubbish, absolutely rubbish kisser. He possibly had potential if he didn't have such a crap partner. On the plus side Air, Rita and Pinball Wizard were all proper bonza.
  • The cds in the car on the way there and back were well decent. On the way there I rediscovered the brilliance of Alison Moyet (in particular Whispering Your Name - vid above. EPIC), Newton's Sometimes When We Touch (discotastic) and Hazel Dean's Whos Leaving Who (I don't think you ever find out). On the way back it was Kylie's Enjoy Yourself. I did.
  • Triple Hurrah! The final three episodes of whimsical delight (etc) Pushing Daisies have started airing on ITV in England. This week had so much to enjoy in it, I almost forgot the devastation of it's cancellation. Olive sings! There is a brilliant but brief Superman cape reference with visual. Caustic Emerson paraphrases Barbra Streisand. Gloves become incredibly romantic. It was all brilliant. Only two left :(
  • Double Hurrah! Not only has Jesse McCartney made it possible for one to make a very decent album indeed by picking the best tracks from Departure/Re:charged, but he is also quite good on the effortlessly likeable Greek which came back a couple of weeks ago. Best new tracks? Body Language and Crash & Burn. Trust me. Or poppostergirl :P
  • Hurrah! Harpers Island is here - and is basically a remake of (the best soap opera ever) Sunset Beach's Terror Island storyline. So it's rubbish but in a watchable way. When is Chris Gorman going to be the star he deserves to be? The guy is ALWAYS working!
  • I may have to re-evaluate my feelings toward Secret Life of An American Teenager....
  • I have broken up my obsession this weekend with Kings of Leon and Little Boots (big post on her coming soon) with the cheesy cheese on toast new song by BeFour. It's called Ding A Dong and the message is basically when life is a bit poo just sing Ding A Dong. I mocked this concept for about 3 seconds then fell in love with the song. It's ace in a crap way. I likes.
  • As I mentioned last week, Susan Boyle continues to be the big fave for Britain's Got Talent, up against a jolly nice fellow who played the sax this week (but does the world really need another Kenny G?). EPIC FAIL for blatently scripted contestant, a 12 year old boy from Wales who sang Valerie incredibly out of time, then "surprisingly" got another go and sang some Michael Jackson song flawlessly (apparently. Little shrieky for my liking). Talk about completely set up....(The Singing Souls were hilarious though)

  1. Pablo, did you go see Yazoo on their tour last year?

I never really fell for that "sometimes when we touch" song like I did for "Sky High."

Going to check out "Ding a Dong." I bet it makes me feel sexy.

Oh, and read your retort re: Kings of Leon. I'd rather fuck Susan Boyle with an eggbeater. In the rear.

  2. Some great mentions this week. Also loving the JMac, and I also recently re-connected with Alison. I heard a clip of the Michael Jackson audition, and I did like it. Seemed true to the original.

  3. Susan Boyle has become quite the sensation, hasn't she? Honestly, if she doesn't win I will be shocked.

And SC's going to be on Secret Life? That might work...

And I can't imagine how bad those kissers were!!! Glad to hear you're enjoying Jesse though!

  5. Susan Boyle is defo amazing. She's just humble and I love her for that.

And Shaheen? This boy has got to be the winner. Honestly.

  6. I keep meaning to watch Greek since everyone says it's so great--maybe I'll catch up this summer!

Didn't BeFour used to have four members? Did they lose one or was he just not there for that performance?

Pushing Daisies' final episodes airing: :D and :( at the same time.

I've finally given in and like "I Do Not Hook Up."

  7. I saw most of Pushing Daisies on Friday and it was very good indeed. Typically bonkers of course but still very good.

I am now off to dig out my Alison Moyet greatest hits cd. I love her Yazoo stuff and her voice is gorgeous. Hurry up by the way with Little Boots :)

  9. Susan Boyle has even made Australian 6 O'clock news for heavens sake.

By the way, I completely "LOL'd" at your Enjoy Yourself comment.

Dollhouse. You should really get into it. I am waking up in the middle of the night thinking I am one of the actives from the show. Waking up has been the most confusing act of my day, every day for the last week.

  11. Dluv - i didn't see yazoo on tour and now i am sad that i missed the opportunity. i am hoping ding a dong DID make you feel sexy :)

JOhn - ah little Jesse can do no wrong at the moment :) And while that MJ audition technically was good, the whole thing reaked of a set up. So now i can't bring myself to root for the kid...

Yuri - well i think the shows producers are kicking themselves for bringing her out into the limelight so early cos now everyone figures she will win and why bother watching! Still brits have got it wrong many times before (most recently with alexblandra)

Aaron - its a great video too. je t'adore infernal! And they were very bad kissers indeed (the queue people, not infernal, obv :P )

Ken - yes yes yes to susan (though she is grossly overexposed now) and NO NO NO to shaheen! FIX! FIX!!

PG - yes! Watch Greek! The only minor quibble i have is that season one takes you up to spring break and then the first ten eps of season two are the end of the freshman year (for the young uns!). So i kinda look at year one as 33 eps long - like 90210 in it's heyday! I'm sure bobby will know what happened to BeThree!! Maybe one of the boys had a sex change and defected to Red Blooded Women??! I share your Pushing Daisies sentiments ;( and :)

Ben - well i finally did my little boots post and managed to edit it down to a reasonable size! Go me. If i were to write properly about Alison i'd be here all day!

Anon - amen! Coincidence my arse. I don't blame the kid, it's the scriptwriters on the show :P

Adem - I was chatting with Joss Whedon and he told me you ARE an active but not to tell you yet! OH NO!!!

James - i love Whos Leaving Who! So amazing :)
