Single selection ~ A Very Boy Band Playlist...

Greetings one and all. I hope you had a lovely Christmas. I did. Well I'm assuming I did, but as I am currently (as you read this) in Las Vegas, I am writing this prior to Christmas and therefore referencing it as if it was in the past, rather than in the future. Which you are currently reading this, and I am in the present typing it up, but now, as you read it, am in the past. How Doctor Who ever gets made is beyond me... Anyway, to shake me out of my post Christmas blues, I have created a jolly decent boy band playlist of their latest singles/should be singles. Good to listen to, and you can usually find someone nice to look at amongst this motley crew :)

A VERY BOY BAND PLAYLIST:

  • JLS ~ Do You Feel What I Feel: I'm a bugger for playing Christmas music far longer than I should, so JLS have kindly come up with a brilliant yet kind way to ween me off it. Standing somewhere between Club Is Alive bonkersosity and Take A Chance On Me charm is the third single from their current album - it's essentially a cover / tribute / christmas song sample of Do You Hear What I Hear, but rather than be about celebrating the birth of Jesus, it's about celebrating the birth of an erection because they have seen some shawty in a little dress at a club. which is probably alive. I mock, but it's actually rather good. Will they ever release a fourth single from an album?? Time will tell...
  • Auryn ~ Favourite Guy: Oh how my Auryn boys can do absolutely no wrong with me at the moment. They haven't announced their third single from Endless Road yet but they could do a lot worse than this little gem. It has an off kilter beat, some finger clicking fun, confident vocals and a brilliant chorus that is some of the best boyband chorusing since Take That unleashed Shine upon the world. and when they are performing, they genuinely look like they are having such a good time singing - and that's always important to me. Stand by to be stunned...
  • The Wanted ~ Warzone: What confuses me about The Wanted's second album campaign is that they kicked it off with a couple of giddy hedonistic dance anthems, released the album and then harped on about how they were going to put out a special edition of the album in 2012. This sort of put me off buying it as I'd rather get the new (ie, probably better) tracks they are working on. Anyway, this is the more sombre side of The Wanted. Not my favourite track of theirs but certainly not a poor showing :)
  • Youngblood ~ Blame It On You: I've written about this new Swedish boyband before, but now there's an accompanying video to their perky debut single Blame It On You. It has more of a vein of One Direction and Auryn than JLS & The Wanted, but that's more than ok as the jangly guitar based song has a real charm to it. I can't wait to see what they offer up for eurovision. Altogether now, oh oh oh blame it on you, blame it on you!! Brillz.
  • One Direction ~ One Thing (Acoustic): Let's strip One Direction, uh, back for a little while with this acoustic version of their upcoming single, One Thing. This version heavily focuses on the medley and the blending of the boys voices, which reminds me of their rather glorious time on the x'factor. Lovely version of what no doubt will be another big smash for them...
  • Westlife ~ Beautiful World: Ah and so the best new song from the final greatest hits collection gets it's time in the sun. It's suitably melancholic, reflective, wistful, optimistic and anthemic; they sound in fine a form vocally as ever and it's another wonderful credit to Mark Feehily's increasingly impressive writing portfolio - a fitting end to one of the most enduring boy band careers England has ever seen. Sniffle...
