Well a big happy birthday to monsieur Daz of the Pants! He is *whispers* 40 today, and what a fine specimen of a fella he still is :) We've just had a lovely big ace gang weekend away at which I premiered my mix cd for him which takes into account some of his favourite songs since he's been alive (Yes, I'm aware that a lot of them are from the last 20 years, but it's my list and I'll cry if I want to!)
- I Just Wanna Fucking Dance ~ always his favourite way to kick start any night out, plus soundtrack to many an amazing moment at Centre Stage in Gran Canaria...
- I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing ~ number one the day he was born. Oh sweet Christ.
- Claire & Friends, It's 'Orrible Being In Love (When You're 8 1/2) ~ the first single he bought. Ah the lovelorn pangs of tweens.
- Kylie, Better The Devil You Know ~ Unbeknownst to us both at the time, we were actually at the same Kylie concert back in 1990. I exited gracefully, he broke his arm (and still bears that scar today!)
- Black Eyed Peas, Boom Boom Pow ~ There's really no accounting for taste is there??! He does do a mean slo-mo robot dance though...
- Steps, Deeper Shade of Blue (Sleazesisters Anthem Edit) ~ one of their finest moments, and he still knows all the dance moves...
- Salt n Pepa, Shake Your Thang ~ He loves a good rap does Darren. He can do One Boy Girl & Shocked (Kylie) at the drop of a hat, but this is his finest Salt n Pepa moment...
- Heavy D & The Boys, Now That We Found Love ~ More rap and proof that young Mr D (Darren, not Heavy) still knows how to get down with his bad self...
- Kim Appleby, Don't Worry ~ while he can whip out any Mel & Kim classic at a moment's notice, he does enjoy this rather uplifting pop treat...
- Bananarama, I Want You Back ~ frankly any Bananarama moment would have done, but there's nothing wrong with this S/A/W classic, is there???
- Lonnie Gordon, Happening All Over Again ~ More S/A/W and rightly so. Apparently she was as crazy as a box of frogs and so was DP for most of the 90s. I like to think I tamed his wild ways :D
- Dolly Rockers, Je Suis Une Dolly ~ Poor Darren gets lumbered with a lot of music I like from upcoming pop acts and this is the one he probably liked best. Fave moment was us both doing the dance moves on a bridge in Austria. good times...
- Holly Johnson, Americanos ~ Ooo, he loved a bit of Holly in the 80s did Darren. I think he also liked Love Train quite a lot but I didn't have that one on the computer...!
- Beautiful South, Good As Gold ~ He also loves the Beautiful South, quite a bit more than me to be honest so I selfishly only included my favourite song of theirs...:)
- Madonna, Nothing Really Matters ~ As he lived with a hardcore fan for a number of years, he knows all about the ins and outs of Ms Ciccone - this is his fave moment of hers (particularly some of the club mixes). I still think her finest effort is Like A Prayer...
- S Club 7, Don't Stop Billie Jean ~ the disco magic of S Club mixed with the parental issues of Billie Jean (surely ripe for Justin Bieber to cover??) - what's not to love??!
- Five Star, Slightest Touch ~ Let's not focus on the fact that for years I thought this was called The Midas Touch and concentrate on the fact that Darren does a mean shimmy dance move to it at the beginning of the song...
- Bette Midler, Otto Titsling ~ Eee, he loves the Bette does Darren. Knows all her stuff, her smutty Soph jokes and saw her in Vegas twice. This is from her excellent weepie Beaches. I love a song about bras, I do...
- Shania Twain, KaChing ~ he's very frugal and amazing with money, and also loves a bit of Shania. Ergo, this song was the perfect choice. Plus we are already planning to go see her in Vegas next year...
- Sabrina, Boys Boys Boys ~ it's almost impossible not to have a good time when listening to this song. Any excuse to play it, etc...
- Technotronic, Pump Up The Jam ~ Pump it up, while your feet are stomping, etc. Darren loves a bit of technotronic. He also approves of Black Box & Ride On Time.
- Doris Day ~ Deadwood Stage: Many a car ride has been spent perfecting the spoken, quasi rap middle 8 interlude. It's amaze. "Snake oil for your rheumatism, calico and gingham for the girls/gum drops made up in chicag-y, gum drops just a trifle soggy & a genuine string of artificial pearls". BRILL.
You two are tre cute, I want to pinch you and am completely jelly! Happy Birthday, Darren!
