Single Selection: Little Boots ~ Every Night I Say A Prayer

Thank god for the return of L'il Bootsie (!), a name which I shall never call her again. It's been far too long since her sparkling and accomplished debut album but if you are going to do something do it right I say and her return is nothing less than a stunning slice of shimmering disco magic. Every Night I Say A Prayer is somewhat more reflective and pensive than her previous work, and the haunting electro instrumental creates a swirling, atmospheric ambience with Little Boots' vocal just gliding smoothly over it. It's saturated with tributes to 90s dance music - the Real McCoy-esque piano, the insistent bassline and that deliciously emphatic chorus of "i have seen into the future/I want you to take me there". I love how the chorus juxtaposes nicely with the more ethereal nature of the verses, it seemingly gives it more power, more impact and it soars as a result of this. It's one of those songs that gets more insistent and more invasive with each listen until you succumb under a sparkling cloud of musical glitter. Gorgeous, hopeful, optimistic and sensational. Now I just need a singer for my piano medley of Every Night I Say A Prayer / Like A Prayer / I Say A Little Prayer for you. Put your HANDS together because Little Boots has made it time to PRAY...

If you like this, then try these...

  • Bob Sinclair ft Sophie Ellis Bextor ~ Fuck With You: From the turn of the century, Sophie has set the standard for sophisticated and elegant pop music from Take Me Home right up to her heavenly duet with The Feeling (Leave Me Out Of It, a modern day Don't Give Up if ever there was one). Her team up with Bob Sinclair has been floating around for a while but is definitely worth your time. Combining that chic disco sound that the French do so very well at the moment with Sophie's impeccable vocal delivery, and that ever so naughty chorus delivered in an upper class accent makes for a winning combination. Sometimes you gotta just sing what you feel :) Marvelous...
  • Alexandra Burke ~ Let It Go: I must confess I've not overly been enjoying Alexandra Burke 2.0. Elephant was fine, but felt a bit generic and I barely gave single 2 from album 2 anytime. However it has somehow managed to inveigle it's way into my brain and beaten me into submission. It's very reminiscent of an updated Show Me Love and there is no doubt that Alexandra is still a winning vocalist that can make any tune her own. Interesting to see how this will do as she enters a new phase of her career...
