Your Essential Fizzypop Thursday Playlist...

I've been so busy blogging about the non-finale of RuPaul's Drag Race (a winner *wasn't* crowned) and the overly dramatic Steps On The Road Again (now with 50% reused material) that I have managed to miss out on a plethora (excellent word) of new music. And this is in addition to all the new music I had to catch up with on Monday!! Good gravy. So grab your favourite Starbucks beverage, pull up your comfiest chair and settle in, cos this is gonna take a while...

  • Tone Damli ft Eric Saade ~ Imagine: It's the most exciting royal union since Kate and Wills - Norwegian pop princess Tone Damli has hooked up (musically) with the Swedish King of Pop, Eric Saade. One almost expects Darin to pop up in a tux singing Can't Stop Love :D Anyway, this combining of talents brings us one of the most perky, accessible and delightful pop tunes of the year so far (take that Carly Rae Jepsen!) and may be even better than that other well known Imagine song. Their voices blend together in an incredibly sweet way on this dreamy ditty with a instantaneously memorable chorus. Tone sounds gorgeous and it's lovely to hear Eric that is so pure pop. Heavenly bliss.
  • Ola ~ I'm In Love:*SCREAM* It's the brand new single from Ola. It's been a giddy few months for soaring quality boy pop from Sweden (see Darin's Nobody's You; Danny's Amazing) and Ola has kept the standard ridiculously high with this tremendous comeback single. Any song that starts off with a run through the days of the week is a-ok with me, and Ola embraces an almost human-computer like quality to his vocal delivery that gives the song a futuristic electro vibe. The chorus refrain of "i'm in love" is viciously insidious, delving deeply into the synapses of your brain on first listen. AND THEN IT GETS EVEN MORE AMAZING. There is a second chorus that sends the song into the stratosphere. Basically it's like eating your last malteaser and then finding that there is another left in the pack. it's that good. Out on May 7th, you can check it out at about 45m30s below...

  • Jeronimo ~ One Kiss: And so the fulfilment of Jeronimo The Popstar continues. His new single One Kiss is a total corker. Musically it feels like the instrumental is based on an uptempo lambada with a bubbly, percolating beat that is hard to resist. Lyrically, it's about a rather coy girl who won't give young Jeronimo a bit of a snog, despite him wooing her at every opportunity (is she crazy, has she not seen him)?! The entire tune is filled with this zesty energy and kudos to Jeronimo for his personality totally shines through in both the audio and the video (above). His voice is built for charming pop tunes like this, and it absolutely feels like this could be a massive summer smash all across Europe. Bring on the album now please mister...
  • Reece Mastin ~ Shut Up And Kiss Me: English born, but Australian X Factor winning Reece may not have made the video available in England but that hasn't stopped his new single being an exhilarating blast of pop that is a rollercoaster ride of brillz from start to finish. It's essentially power-punk pop but performed with such verve, enthusiasm and flair that it lifts it way above other lesser performers and becomes a blistering assault of frenetic sounds that grabs you and has you faux-moshing along until the very end. Given his young age, it could have easily veered into Busted 'Crashed The Wedding' territory but steers clear and becomes an accomplished engaging tune the likes of which Pink, Kelly Clarkson et al would be proud to perform. Bodes well for his first album of original material...

  • One Direction ~ Tell Me A Lie: Blimey. When they were put together for the X Factor UK a few years ago, and eventually came 3rd, who foresaw that they would spearhead a worldwide embracing of the boyband phenomenon once again? As America still swoons over What Makes You Beautiful, the UK is awaiting whether a fourth single will be forthcoming from the album. If so, then they would be fools not to release the Kelly Clarkson penned Tell Me A Lie. It's like the boyband version of My Life Would Suck Without You - all teen angst set to an effervescent guitar driven soundtrack. The boys sound great, Zayn gets his moment in the sun and a clever remix (much like the reworking of Belinda Carlisle's We Want The Same Thing in 1990) would give this track a new lease of life and another massive chart success. Just do it quick before their hair goes completely out of control...
  • Youngblood ~ American Girlfriend: While I'm busy bossily informing boybands what their next single should be, Youngblood could do far worse than listening to my advice :D American Girlfriend is very much what you'd expect from Sweden's premier boyband (though I do miss What's Up!) It's very rar rar cheerleading, hand clapping goodness which of course lines up nicely with the theme of the track. The chorus is infernally catchy, the boys voices blend well together and I'm a sucker for an oo-aa-oo in a good pop tune. Madonna (Give Me All Your Luvin') has made cheerleading-handclapping chic again and this is just the icing on the cake. Delicious...
