What I Missed While On Holiday.. (ft Kylie, Will Young, Mischa B, Agnes & many others!)

So I'm back from Gran Canaria where I had a riotous time for 9 lovely days (and 9 salubrious nights) in Playa Del Ingles. While I did read a lot and catch up on some tv while lazing around the pool (ain't technology grand), I didn't really spend any time online which means coming home to lots of things I missed out on. Here are just some of the highlights...

WHAT I MISSED...

  • Kylie takes over TV ~ I pretty much missed all of the Jubilee concert as I was on the flight from hell (actually it was from Las Palmas, but I'm sure you get my drift). Anyway, Kylie performed an entire medley of hits at the show. There was a bit of Spinning Around, Can't Get You Out Of My Head, the gorgeous All The Lovers and for archive fans, a bit of Step Back In Time (with dance troupe Flawless being flawless on stage with her). It makes me giddy just watching it. Delish. Add to this her Timebomb performance on the voice last week (which I also missed, and why the fuss is that track stalling at number bloody 31??) and I'm just as in love with her as ever...
  • Will Young continues to shine on video ~ Will Young is now firmly established as much as a visual artist as he is an audio artist. His clips to accompany his singles are more to promote the album at this stage, but still a dazzling treat. His latest (for the lovely and plaintive I Just Want A Lover) is a corker - he is working in a supermarket and spends most of his time dancing around with a trolley in the carpark. This is exactly how I spent my breaks working the night shift on the fish counter at Asda in my youth, so I totally relate :)
  • Agnes returns ~ Seemingly forever and a day since she popped out her comeback single, Don't Go Breaking My Heart. While that tune was quite perky, One Last Time is infinitely superior and is a smart, percussive track that will simply explode when the dance remixes are released. However, I'm quite smitten with the track as it is and am eager for a full album from the young missy...
  • Mischa B sizzles ~ After the enjoyable but safe effort from Marcus Collins, all eyes are on Miss Mischa B to be quite amazing with the release of her debut single Home Run. Luckily it's an absolute belter, starting off with a soaring soulful vocal before mixing in reggae influences, jolting percussion and some drum & bass for good measure. It's frenetic but never forgets to be catchy as hell. Magnif...
WHAT I TOOK WITH ME...

  • Scissor Sisters ~ Magic Hour: It's the best Magic Hour since Halo James rocked the song back in 1990 :D Anyhoo, the Scissters new album is a fusion of everything that they have delivered before with some new tricks up their sleeves. As a fan of their 70s inspired honky tonk influenced tunes, I'm thrilled beyond belief that Baby Come Home is their new single. I've been playing it on repeat non stop nearly all week. Absolutely delicious...
  • Marina ~ Bubblegum Bitch: While Gran Canaria was under the spell of Starships (i'm hooked), Timebomb (of course) and Euphoria (ugh - it's just a Rihanna rewrite of We Found Love, and I wasn't too keen on that either), I sought solace in Marina's catchy as hell song Bubblegum Bitch. I may even ignore her next single choice and just focus on this instead...
  • The Hunger Games: Yes I'm a million years behind everyone else (but in my defence, I was quite early with Harry Potter and bought Gregory Maguire's Wicked the day it came out), but having devoured book one before the hols, I literally got through Catching Fire and Mockingjay in 3 days once I was ensconsed (is that even a word) by the pool. A bit like Lost in the sense that the sum of it's parts were better than the ending, but now I'm a fan, I'll have to go and watch the movie. Still haven't seen Avengers tho... :D
  • Gilmore Girls Season 5 ~ blissful, hilarious and making me very eager for Bunheads to be massive...
