The Cover Up: The Bandana Splits ~ Sunshine Lollipops & Rainbows

I tell you what. I'm an absolute sucker for a classic, uplifting-and-don't-give-a-damn, filled with optimism and hope type pop song. Lazy Hazy Crazy Days of Summer? Bring it on! The Rainbow Connection? Love it (especially when used so exquisitely as part of the Bunheads Summer Finale)! SO I was particularly delighted when the amazing Bandana Splits wheeled out this Lesley Gore classic from 1963...

Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows was a song by Lesley Gore (singer of It's My Party) and written by Marvin Hamlisch who sadly died earlier this month (and also penned one of my favourite all time tunes, What I Did For Love). The song is a bright and breezy celebration of all things love & peps along with a sweet, bubbling melody that is nigh on impossible to shake off. Those honey voiced vocalists of The Bandana Splits blend their luscious tones together perfectly and imbue the song with enough sunny optimism that it's entirely contagious & uplifting. They make you absolutely believe in the lyrics, despite how they might play in these more cynical times. And as I adore a classic key change, they handle that with aplomb - it's musical nirvana that makes me want to hug all involved. More please :)
