Single Selection: Bryan Finlay ~ Tonight is Alright

It seems that most of my favourite songs at the moment come from artists that are not signed or do their own thing via smaller, independent labels. And I'm a-ok with that because these artists (Asher Monroe, Ed Drewett, Velvet Stream, Scarlett's Roses et al) are all providing me with delightful pop music that has me singing all the live long summer. Please add to this list the always reliable pop guru Bryan Finlay. If you've been in a Hollister in the past year (either to buy clothes or to ogle hot guys, the choice is yours) you have probably exited humming his rather brilliant tune Sentimental Fool. Now that's how to create a corker of a pop song :) Luckily Bryan has other tricks up his sleeve including a quiff-tastic new look and a scintillating throbber of a summer anthem in the electro-infused Tonight Is Alright. Lyrically it's actually a rather inspiring tale of conquering your own nerves & fears, stepping up to the plate and actually becoming the better/more confident/sassier you that you always knew lived somewhere deep inside you. It's about casting off your inhibitions, seizing the moment and grabbing life with both hands while you go for a good old shimmy with your chosen paramour. Musically it's set to this pulsating, pounding anthemic instrumental that is reminiscent of the big 80s power-pop anthems as well as more contemporary fare that Katy Perry would come at you, all cream boobs blazing to be able to record. The chorus is a work of genius with it's incessantly catchy refrain and "come join the party" type convivial lyrics - and once you've had a jolly good time bopping along to that, you get this rather amazing "oh oh" chant along bit that buffer into the verses. It leaves you on a giddy high, breathless for more. Loving the cheeky pop reference in the middle 8 & that sumptuous sax outro that comes out of nowhere (and may be the best sax solo since this). Bryan performs the song with such exuberance & glee that it's hard-to-resist nature becomes absolutely irresistable. Play it loud. Play it often. Your summer will be better with this song in it.

(PS, do check out the lyric video above - it's all sorts of cute and funny, showcasing wit and personality that matches the vibrant nature of the song. And make sure you purchase the song here. Congrats Bryan Finlay - I'd smooch you if I wasn't so far away :D)
