I like The Summer Set, I really do. Their recent British invasion was an exhilarating blast of fresh air. Brian rocks a bow tie like no other. And their incessantly catchy brand of pop is something that you should all be salivating over. Current single, Boomerang, is a giddy little treat that is just what the summer needs. It is the most percolating of pop ditties that fizzes like the most fresh glass of lemonade thanks to a sprightly & invigorating beat, engaging & quirky vocals and a hook to freaking die for. It's all a bit manic and bonkers - and that works perfectly because lyrically this tale of slight obsessions details all the wacky things one does for love in a wry, tongue in cheek observational style. It's never less than irreverent & certainly always enjoyable. Not your average ephemeral pop tune, this is going to last the season and beyond. Just like The Summer Set! And hey - here's what they've achieved in the video...
- Hurrah! Brian is in a bow tie. Frankly everything else could be completely shit about this video and I wouldn't care :D
- Everyone is fiddling with their instruments (oo-er) and Brian has a straighten of his couture. His hair does look quite pop star too which is obviously very important to the musical output...
- Ooo it's speed dating. I went to a gay one of these once. I got a "no" "no way" "perhaps" and "maybe later" so not a resounding success. I'm much foxier now though. Then I was still "blooming"...
- He's very energetic in his singing performances isn't he, that Brian, and this translates well to his dating scenario where frankly he comes off as a bit of a loveable dork. The busty blonde he is with doesn't look overly impressed. Shame on her!
- It's onto vampire loving Jenn next who thinks that wearing her fangs to a speed dating will make her quirky and kookie. Looking like the bastard love child of Cher and Jessie J doesn't help (and amazingly, Cher once sang about a Jessie J!) AND! She must be roasting in that leather get up. It's clearly summer. On the plus side, she's very bendy so there must be a tick box for that!
- The slightly exuberant host of the event seems to think that it is all going very well. Alcohol is being served, cocktails are being drunk and lurve connections are happening all over the table. I hope someone has some disinfectant :P
- 1m19s - drummer Jess is ever so slightly amazing isn't she? I kind of want a Wonder Woman revival so she can play Diana Prince...
- Brian is now chatting to some slightly needy and desperate chick with hearts on her boobs. He seems more interested in Busty Blonde who is now being smarmed by what the cast of seminal 80s film 16 Candles would call an oily bo-hunk. I never knew what that meant before now...
- BRIAN NO! He's touched 2 heart/2 boob girl. In crazy land that means they are now engaged with a little one on the way. Can you say shotgun wedding? Not trussed up in the back of her trunk with a ball in your mouth you can't?!?!?
- Repeated attempts to "boomerang" back (see what I did there?!) to Busty Blonde are thwarted (amazing word, thwarted) by Exubuerant Host Lady (divorced, twice). Sadly his next options aren't much better - a drunk and someone stuck at 80s prom. Was there no quality vetting at the entrance of this event??!
- The unfeasible pairing of twins and acid reflux means that our intrepid hero gets another 7 minutes in heaven with Busty Blonde. Actually it feels a bit wrong to keep calling her that. Let's call her Maude.
- HURRAH! He gets her number and does a manly fist pump to the sky. Everyone is very pleased for him. I actually hugged the dog...
- Romantic snogs at sunset finish off the song. How lovely (ps, it has been most remiss of me not to mention how uniformly excellent the band have been in the stage performance parts of this video. Kinetic energy flows from every shot :D)
