New and Noteworthy: The Decoration ~ There With You

I'm smitten. I'm a smitten little kitten. The Decoration are officially my new favourite obsession and I am loving them oh so very much right now. This riDONKulously talented Antipodean duo are purveyors of effortlessly gorgeous, ethereal, addictive, timeless pop music that will infuse you very being with joy and happiness from just listening to it. Jake and Rhian have an innate understanding of what makes a jolly good pop tune and have crafted an exquisite instrumental to act as the soundtrack to their lyrical examination of a relationship. There's an engaging strumming guitar propelling the track forward surrounded by delicate chimes that give the song a real ethereal, delicate vibe that is all too hard to resist. When a kicky percussive beat becomes more prevalent during the chorus, it's like unwrapping the perfect gift - causing your endorphin levels to rise with the sheer glee of their musical alchemy. Add to this their simply lovely individual and combined vocals, that weave around the music - and each other - like a melting ice cream on the cone, and you are mesmerised from start to finish. It's all endearingly mellifluous - with moments of real nuanced wistfulness (particularly in the middle 8, where coming from the giddy high of the chorus, it's a definitive statement of yearning & longing that stands in subdued contrast to the rest of the tune. It's a subtle way of pacing the song & emotion before one more, euphoric run through of that indelible chorus). There's also added pleasure when additional backing vocals behind the chorus power the song to a glorious climax that leaves you breathless and oh so ready for more.
