Single Selection: Kym Sims ~ Goodmorning
When I was 14, my grandma came into my bedroom, interrupted me putting up a Jason Donovan picture and told me that gays are like elephants - they never forget. "And they have long trunks" she cackled, laughing like a drain (whatever that means) before shuffling off to top off her Gin and Tonic (though the tonic was a mere splash). Weirdly I have never forgotten that so ergo she must be right. And if one is being generalised about these things, it is certainly true in terms of sparkling pop hits. But surely everyone loves a trip down memory lane and reliving those pop classics that never get old? This is probably why when Kym Sims maHOOSive hit, Too Blind To See It, gets played at Eden on a Saturday night, the crowd goes wild and enthusiastically chant "Now let me tell you something! No man in the world" before those delicious beats kick in. Anyway, that rather long introduction was all leading up to telling you that Kym of the Sims is back! Hurrah! You no doubt DO remember her from Too Blind To See It, but hopefully also remember such sparkling classics like Take My Advice, A Little Bit More and I Must Be Free (as well as the song she penned for CeCe Peniston Keep On Walking). Well, she has a brand new song out called Goodmorning (all one word, don'cha know?). And it's not so much of a comeback, more of a triumphant return to form. The song is an absolute diamond corker of a pop-dance tune that will have you shimmying and booty-popping along by the end of the first chorus. What I really love about it is that it takes all the elements that made hits like Too Blind To See It so big (pulsating bass, house-tastic beats) and adds what is necessary to make it all feel contemporary alongside the nostalgia - this is why you get big rave-infused moments alongside the still powerhouse vocals of Ms Sims. It's all very 1am in the club, and the celebratory lyrics give it that added euphoric touch that drives you forward til the last taxi home. Can I just point out 2 things - firstly, Kym looks stunning in the video and still sounds utterly amazing. Secondly, it's fair to say that dance music like this has inspired current artists (such as the delightful Bright Light Bright Light) so it's nice to see Kym back in the spotlight. Long may she reign :)
Wow! What can I say!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!
