Sigh. I have enjoyed the rise and rise of Auryn. Their debut single, Breathe Into The Light, was such a sophisticated, enjoyable slice of boy band pop that I thought it would be difficult to top. However, instead of doing more of the same they embraced different genres of fizzy pop, yet all within the boy band genre. This has meant slice after slice of sparkling, singalong tunes that delighted existing fans and attracted new ones along the way. And of course, add to this that none of the five lads in the band are particularly hard to look at (with Alvaro being particularly dreamy!) and you've got a smash group ready to emerge from Spain & take over the world. Their latest single, Make My Day, may just be the song to do that. Not only is it a deliriously juicy piece of feel good, pulsating pop (with a chorus that just won't quit!) but it also has what may be their most ambitious and brilliant video to date. Here are some of my fave parts of said mini-movie :)
- It's 2047. We have somehow gone forward in time, yet luckily I still look as sickeningly handsome and young as I do today :P I hope I don't come across Old Me, as I will be 73, bald and probably not have kept in shape as much as I should :(
- Or I could be dead as apparently global warming has ravaged earth and now it is full of lawbreakers looking for water (also known as Liquid Gold, quite a popular popper in the UK fact fans!). Only the Auryn boys as mercenaries can stop them and ooo, don't they all look mean and moody :) I'm secretly (not so secretly) loving it already and they haven't played a note yet!
- At 25s, Blas pulls out his giant sword. Oo-er, etc :D The boys of course need to hunt down some attractive femme fatale who (the naughty minx) has been stealing water! EL SCANDALO!
- Carlos and Alvaro are on a motorbike, because although water is short apparently petrol is in abundant supply! What do they put in as coolant? These and many more questions will be explored over the season and no doubt addressed in the cliff-hanging season finale :P Alvaro is rocking a mighty fine coat and has a much bigger sword than Blas!
- Despite there being a paucity of water and it being a blistering hot day, at the one minute mark the boys all get together for a nice singalong/bit of a bop to the chorus. And frankly, no matter how gloomy and grim the world becomes there should always be time for a shimmy to a boy band number...
- Oh No! Femme Fatale (let's call her Chloe) has knocked out Alvaro. These boys sure do suffer for their art. They are always getting beaten or murdered in their videos. What a jip!
- Now Carlos is in a fight with Chloe. Either Carlos is a rubbish fighter or he is a gentleman because she kicks his ass. Let's assume it's the latter for the sake of his manhood :)
- Blas is wandering around looking at his compass for inspiration, while working his silky smooth chest look. Meanwhile Dani is keeping watch with amazing ruffled pop star hair. Also important - I don't care if the apocalypse is breathing down your neck, there's always time for product :)
- It's nighttime. Chloe is having some dinner. I hope that's rabbit she's eating and not the tender morsels of Carlos and Alvaro. Blas spies on her but she pulls the ol' pillows under the blanket switcharoo and clobbers him with a 2 by 4. The feisty vixen!
- David surveys the land from his watch tower (an actual watch tower, not the Jehovah's Witness magazine of course) while somehow making a sleeveless shirt look completely necessary & rocking his head bandanna (which also showcases his spikey do)...
- As the only two remaining members of this boy band version of Survivor meets Mad Max meets Waterworld meets Lost, David and Dani are having a good ol' hunt for Chloe & their fallen comrades. She is one slippery little sucker and eludes their grasp once more... FOR NOW!
- (More boy band frivolity in the sun while David & Dani have a mini-man off at each other. THE DRAMA :D)
- Go Dani! Dude has a gun pointed at Chloe's head. That'll teach her to smack his bitches up :) 3 shots are fired. Is this the end of Chloe? I'd sort of come to like her :P
- And so it all ends - (SPOILER ALERT!) Dani shot the water bottle which sort of ruins it for everyone :) Good shot though. The boys are all ok and I'm only slightly disappointed that they weren't all chained up in a cave somewhere :D
