Weekend Supplement: The Feeling ~ I Just Do

For those of you who didn't catch The Feeling's last album (Together We Are Made), then you are a ninny (in the nicest possible way). It may not have reached the giddy commercial success of their first two albums but it was a solid collection of songs that saw them effortlessly weave new influences into their established sound to delightful effect. I could have easily mined it for 5 singles (in order - Searched Every Corner, Set My World On Fire, Dance For The Lights, A Hundred Sinners & Leave Me Out Of It) - and the double disc edition was worth the price of entry just for the Betty Boo duet (Virtually Art). A Greatest Hits package followed (with an exquisite new version of live favourite Rose) and then it seemingly went a bit quiet at Camp The Feeling. Of course, the boys were busy beavering away crafting the next stage in their musical evolution and that has now started to emerge, like a butterfly from it's chrysalis, with the announcement of their fourth album, Boy Cried Wolf. And what a way to launch it - above you will no doubt see their preview video of the album, presented with wry humour & a glimpse into some of the songs we'll all be singing in full come October. I love how the quintessentially old school English setting seems quintessentially The Feeling too; it's beautifully staged and filmed, almost like a mini movie. Two things - Paul's hair is amazing and yes, let's kick this album in the dick! For a more fully rounded insight into the new album, the boys have released a live recording of the song I Just Do (which if you are quick, you can download free at their homepage here). It;s a gorgeous, heartfelt ballad that is full of naunced emotion, tender yearning and wistful regret - echoing eternal themes of being unable to control passion even when you know it's bad for you. Dan - as always - exhibits his flawless ability to let the lyrics consume him and delivers his elegiac words with aching resonance. It's all set around a sumptuous piano melody that is gradually layered with the full band for a wholly textured feel that is both mesmerising and captivating. While I'm sure there are plenty of uptempo moments coming with Boy Cried Wolf, this a stark reminder of the songwriting/performing talents that the band have as a whole - and has me oh so excited for this upcoming project. Make sure you pre-order the album here (my advice - go for the snazzy boxset version) and go see them on tour in the Autumn :)
