Imagine the perky genius of Le Kid, the sultry sounds of The Face (Lovestruck really was an amazing pop tune) and the musical majesty of Dream Beats; all mushed together in one glorious, sparkling, sensational, uplifting, glittering, spine tingling, sexy super group... Once you're done imagining that pop wet dream, prepare yourself to cope with the news that this has actually happened. *SCREAM* Tamer & Christie (The Face), Felix & Marta (Le Kid) and Anders (Dream Beats) have all teamed up to form a super group, appropriately entitled Heroes. They are not quite yet ready to reveal their identities to the world which has led to two (EDIT! 22/08/13 - now four! Count em! FOUR) amazing pre-revelations! These are
- 01 ~ Cover Art! The image they are using for their soundcloud and twitter accounts is actually more insightful than anything Lady G'Gah has come out with of late. There's an element of mystery and allure to it that ties nicely into the mythology of superheroes keeping their identities concealed from the world. Instead you get brief glimpses of tantalising female form that is as svelte, taut and sexy as it could be. (I'm assuming Felix - who I've long had the cosmic horn for - will look super, ripping his shirt open Superman style to reveal HIS costume :D) Alongside this, you have the triangle inside the circle which could easily pass for their hero logo (and opens up a world of marketing opportunities for the band! T-shirts! Mugs! Mousepads! Onesies!). Whether it's by design or not, it's a striking first image that remains with you. Bring on the first group shot :)
- 02 ~ Cover Version! Prior to their official launch single later this summer (thanks to Scandipop for the heads up!) - a track entitled March To My Own Beat - there is more teasing going on with a stunning cover of the Gloria Gaynor track "First Be A Woman". It's a heady little treat that is all sorts of delicious - there's something delightfully retro about it with a glorious male-female vocal tradeoff running throughout. However, there are some brilliant contemporary production values that, like a feather grazing your nipples (!), gives the most thrilling insight into what their own music will sound like. Love the almost siren-like effects in the chorus that once again tie into the superhero theme - there's danger in them there pop charts and Heroes are here to sort it out. The vocals are mighty fine and enticing and it's delivered with such verve, charm and personality that it's impossible to resist. So succumb - get up, grab the one you love (or love the one you're with) and shimmy. Shimmy hard. 4m49s of dazzling nu-disco chic... (Now if they could do a mash up of Bonnie Tyler's Holding Out For A Hero and Fuzzbox's International Rescue, that would be aces. Thanks :D)
- 03 ~ TEASER VIDEO! Fabulosity abounds! We live in a world where most acts now have some ingenius lyric video and then their actual video proper for the track. Heroes go one better (much like Heroes do. I imagine that Wonder Woman often sits around going "well I have an invisible plane and a truth lasso you know" while Superman idly observes "" Yeah? Well I can leap tall buildings in a single bound AND I'm faster than a speeding bullet. Take that bitch") They actually have a teaser video that previews the tremendulence of what is to come. Basically it's a very slow reveal of a door rising to show two of our super heroes awaiting to burst free and save the world from itself. It's quite a slow opening, so I hope the disaster wasn't too imminent as there was no sense of urgency :P All this was interspersed with a disco infused glitter ball and soundtracked (of course) by their wonderful song.
- 04 ~ Lyric video! The words! It's always good to make sure you are singing the right words. For years, I thought Beezlebub had the devil in a sideboard on Bohemian Rhapsody. I've shamed myself publicly in the past by singing "I'll give you love I'll hit you like a CHOP" to Madonna's Erotica. Heck, when I was wasted once on Mimosas, I sang "see that girl, watch her scream, kicking the Dancing Queen". Dearie me, eh? Anyway, Heroes have kindly prevented such embarrassing mishaps with their rather nifty lyric video that features interspliced clips of generally good looking folk having a rather good time. My favourite has to be the represesed secretary at 45s with the manly haircut, beer bottle thick glasses and a pearl necklace that just drips down her :) Amazes.
