DISTORTED POP SONG:
New indie-pop group Art of Amputation are gearing up for the release of their first official single Distorted Pop Song, coming this November to all good download emporiums near you. This follows on from the release of and critical acclaim garnered by their debut EP which won them many new fans earlier this year. This new song should win them many more as it's one of the most intriguing and rewarding pieces of music I've heard in a long time. What's instantly striking about the song is how beautifully put together it all feels - that every note, beat, vocal and space has been carefully placed in the most baroque and complex manner. It absolutely feels like a labour of love; the elements all coalesce to present something quite stunning - a pleasing barrage of fuzzy guitar, compulsive percussion and intoxicating riffs all competing yet seamlessly co-existing. There's definitely an assertive element to the track that is almost challenging, yet it's never aggressive as the sweet melody inserts itself around the ultimately exhilarating score. That languid soaring falsetto vocal is the unifying glue that holds everything together, bringing the mellifluous melody to the fore and accentuating the power and passion that the song demands. It really is like a living breathing work of art that gives you something new every time you experience it. Breathtaking in every sense of the word - play it loud and play it often but make sure you play it. Distorted? Maybe. Pop song? Absolutely...

CALIFORNIAN ENGLISH:
Remember the good old days when one amazing song wasn't enough and singles would be released as AA sides? It was common place in the 60s but hasn't really been *a thing* since, uh, Steps took Heartbeat and Tragedy to the top of the charts in early 1999. I suppose in the digital age of music it's all too easy for consumers to just pick the one track they want and entirely ignore the other. Well no more will the double A side cower in the corner like a second class citizen! Art of Amputation are breaking all the rules in the best possible way by bundling very good indeed Californian English with their also very good indeed track Distorted Pop Song (and I absolutely insist that you buy both). This one has an 80s infused synth groove that is all too seductive when combined with the passionate lead vocals and those alluring textured backing harmonies. Rapid fire percussive runs and an all pervading guitar riff complement the synth driven nature of the track, bringing to the fore the more organic nature of the lyrics. The chorus is as enormous as the Californian coastline and enriching as the sunshine with a refrain that easily stays with you long after the song has finished. A triumph in song structure and melody, feeling like classic pop that will last a lot longer than the fads and trends currently bothering the charts...
