If Another Life, Burn The Bright Lights and, now, The Good Life singles are anything to go by the debut album proper by Australian boy band and X Factor graduates The Collective should be a bit of a corker. Each song shows a different musical side of the band whilst focusing on those oh so pleasing harmonies and soaring solos that they seem to effortlessly portray with each successive release. The Good Life may well be their most mature and sophisticated tune to date - an elegantly shimmering mid-tempo anthem that focuses on mellifluous melody, textured vocals and a gloriously ingratiating instrumental. It starts with a regimented, military style drum beat that remains prominent throughout but definitely serves to accentuate the lads ability to pull the melody to the fore of the song through the engaging power of their vocals. Subtle guitar and vibrant synths are gently added, gaining momentum as they crescendo into the euphoric chorus where the fellas promise to give you the titular good life. Lyrically, the words match the rousing nature of the instrumental - fueled by romantic intention and earnest declarations of better life due to the care and attention they promise to lavish on their chosen paramour. While there is no doubt that this is fully designed to appeal to a teen girl fanbase, if you leave your preconceptions behind it's a song that anyone longing to be loved can relate to - and really isn't that something primal in us all? The good looking guys and catchy refrain? Well that's just a delicious added bonus. Now bring on the album please dudes :)
