World of Girls - Weekend Girl

Here's what I know and it ain't a right lot: World of Girls consists of 5 lasses individually known as Ivy, Mette, Cecilie, Nina and Camilla. They are a Danish girl group signed to Universal. They have some link to ace pop group Aqua who are tweeting about them a lot. Most importantly, however, and what you should focus on initially is that their debut single Weekend Girl is a rollicking good time that gives them a real chance of global success. It's a song that tells a tale as old as time - a philandering fella who is out for a bit of fun whilst his lady waits home (im)patiently for his return. Whilst the subject matter may not be new the approach is fueled by such raw emotion and intimate honesty that it makes it feel fresh and new. The girls vocals accentuate the introspective words that they sing whilst effortlessly switching to making the rousing chorus as euphoric and magnificent as possible. Individually their voices are beautifully suited to pop but it's the textured harmonies that really make you sit up and pay attention! Cleverly, the music gradually adds layers to the sound that matches the mood of the narrative perfectly - starting with a deliciously resonant piano and then adding a pulsing, heart beat bass to the proceedings; sparkling emphatic percussion and fuzzy electro synths help the tune crescendo triumphantly into that fist pumping, rabble rousing chorus that is just as exhilarating as any ice bucket challenge that you can possibly imagine. You've got to love a refrain that is as ferocious as it is memorable and that's exactly what you get here - kicky hooks, mellifluous harmonies and a sassy dollop of earnest attitude that lingers with you long after the fella in question probably does :) Can't wait to see what they come up with next!
