If you've been a fan of Christopher from the start, then you've probably experienced a journey of musical discovery & artistic growth. His debut album Colours was a vibrant collection of eclectic pop influences whilst his second album Told You So showcased a more seductive side of the young fella set to enticing r'n'b grooves. His brand new single CPH Girls continues that journey by fusing 50s inspired soul with New Orleans jazz and contemporary hip hop to produce an accomplished sound that lures you in from the first note to the last effusive beat. CPH Girls is about the appeal of those Copenhagen Girls though could equally stand for Christopher Girls as his army of adoring female fans rush to buy this song which feels like a worthy sequel to his absolute jam Mama. A deliriously engaging sax riff brings the track to life whilst some down 'n' dirty beats give it a pulsing soul that propels it forward, urging the listener to let the music take over their essence & work their way onto the dancefloor. It's a powerfully compulsive instrumental that provides the perfect backdrop for Christopher to weave his provocative pipes around to provide a narrative thrust that resonates with his magnetic pull to the ladies. A female backing vocal combined with reverberating electro effects pulls this firmly into club music territory making it his most charmingly disarming foray into that genre yet. A soulful and sweetly sung mini-chorus with a rapid, repetitive handclap beat pours mellifluous elegance by highlighting the melody of the song more starkly here than anywhere else - but perhaps the real genius is how the song then flips this on it's head, keeping the listener on their toes by introducing the more grime-influenced rap laden chorus. It's a trick that works brilliantly - Christopher sounds in his element delivering a more spoken word style vocal whilst that sax rebounds around him; meanwhile his guest star Brandon Beal is more than capable of bringing a credenza of cool with his featured rap. Add in the icy finger clicking, staccato refrain of Co-pen-hay-gen Girls that innocuously but surely works it's way into your brain and everything about this song screams *SMASH*. Quite rightly it's rocketed to the top of the charts in his native Norway but it feels much more global than that - and perhaps his expanded edition of Told You So can introduce him to a more worldwide market of fans. Do watch the video to see some tight jump rope skipping, some get-down-with-your-bad-self moves and the only way one should ever wear a quilted jacket. Christopher you young genius, you've done it again...
