Nick D' & The Believers - French Delight
Buy French Delight on the Bang Bang EP here (Bandcamp)
I'm definitely a believer in Nick D' & The Believers. Their two EPs to date (Throwing Stones and Bang Bang) feature in constant rotation on my commute to work while their festive offering (Christmas In The City) is a perennial evergreen that Santa will be playing to get himself in the mood for many holiday seasons to come. I've always felt that their latest EP (the aforementioned Bang Bang) was a mini-greatest hits of terrific singles and mercifully the band seem to agree. Hurrah - following on from the title track promoting the EP's release (see my review here), they've now moved on to the magnificent French Delight. To describe this as a blistering assault on your senses absolutely does not do the invigorating, thrilling nature of the song any justice. It has a real aura of authentic prog-rock music thanks to the electrifying guitar riffs that add a frisson of irresistable danger alongside the organic percussion and persuasive vocals. Lyrically it's a plea to be given a chance with the unobtainable vixen of the title, with Nick giving a performance that seems part fueled by yearning lust, part fueled by playful cocky seduction. All of this matches the intensity and passion of the music that is clearly as essential to the narrative as the written word. The tambourine and kicky handclap beat urge the song forward and the listener is swept up in the wall of sound, compelled by the experience of this intoxicating jam. Make sure you check out the video above too - irrefutable proof that Nick D' & The Believers provide excellent visual stimulation alongside this positively sexed up song. I'm pretty much breathless from it all :) Now go, buy, enjoy, repeat :D
