Well this is all very lovely. Those talented dudes better known as Satin Circus are not only giving me their own amazing new tunes this year (Crossroads is still a stone cold jam) but also introducing me to other artists in their native Finland - notably young Isac Elliot with whom they team up to give an acoustic performance of his new single Parachute. It's a rather charming romantic tune about the tough times in life when you need to be the strong person in a relationship, the person who lifts, soothes and edifies. Isac delivers these sentiments perfectly, his voice saturated with an earnest sincerity that makes the words he sings even more poignant and impactful. Stripped back to this live, acoustic setting really gives his engaging vocal style a chance to shine and it has an almost hypnotic effect, most notably when he injects an added layer of passion and power into that soaring chorus. Satin Circus ain't no slouches in accompanying their buddy either - initially it's just the plucking of the guitar and that resonant cello that provide the instrumental backing. This in itself is quite lovely and enhances the sentiments of the song. When the mellifluous piano is added to the mix, it's like musical alchemy happening right before your eyes - the gently swaying notes giving life to the power of Isac's singing. Those layered, wonderfully textured harmonised vocals of the chorus are pure manna from heaven and that shuffling, militant beat that underscores the middle 8 provides just the right amount of emphasis on the crescendo back into the song. It feels like this should be a world wide smash, the type One Republic or The Script would absolutely kill for. Entirely glorious and exactly the type of song that brushes away the lingering doldrums of winter to welcome the hopefulness and optimism of spring. Bravo one and all :)
