Go!Go!Go! - Back In The Day

There is something entirely compelling about the pop act better known as Go!Go!Go! Perhaps it's the fact that they have an incredible pop pedigree behind them (Mike Stock and Steve Crosby who, between them, are basically responsible for some of the greatest pop acts of all time); perhaps it's the fact that they tantalisingly hint at the more adult pop grooves that I know they have in them (see Lay The Rhythm Down; Blue Sky Sunshine Day); or perhaps it's because once you hear one of their incessantly addictive chorus hooks, you will be singing it all the live long day. Let's face it, it is most likely all those elements, plus their cheery personalities that make them so gosh darned enjoyable. And by gum, if we don't need some jolly music in this oft-gloomy world of ours. Although they've been quiet on the new music front for a while, the 3 lasses and 2 lads of Go!Go!Go! have finally unleashed their live favourite, Back In The Day, onto the world. It's not a Christmas song per se, but the instrumental is so percolating, perky and festive that it sits brilliantly alongside your Christmas party play list favourites. Basically it's full of throwbacks to the times when radio was fueled by songs with melodies, catchy refrains and inescapable joyful instrumentals - even the opening "WOOO!" is reminiscent of Whitney's I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me). Set to a vibrant, horn infused score with swirling strings and a giddy beat, the gang sound entirely in their element reminiscing about Spice Girls, NKOTB, Atomic Kitten, Kylie et al. It feels like there are at least two choruses for you to enjoy whilst the verses are a cornucopia of memories that will delight and thrill (a particular fave of mine is "Chesney in the charts/Groove is in the heart"). There is not one part of this song that doesn't put a smile on your face, a glow in your heart and a shimmy in your dance moves - it's how pop music should be. No pretensions, just an amazing time for all. A whole album of stuff like this next please. I'm totally ready to pre-order ;)

  1. I would like to know the full lyrics of "Back in the day" to sing along... do you know a place to read them ? I didn't understood it was Chesney's for example and I so agree with you a full album of this type of music would make Go!Go!Go! be bought by all pwl addicts + Steps nostalgics in addition of their usual cohorts of kids...
