Read my thoughts on You Make Me Feel (Woah) here
The Polar Collective seem like jolly nice chaps - willing to provide a little levity in a world that could do with a smile right about now. It also helps that they are four talented musicians who just want to provide a nu-type of boy band pop music; a genre that needs an injection of something exciting to make it vibrant and invigorating all over again. Polar Collective may just be the band to do that. I'm still reeling from how good their previous single (You Make Me Feel) was/is and now they are back with an equally enticing gem called Deep End. It's a timely message about not worrying about what people think of you, abandoning preconceived notions of what is expected and taking a chance in life - because, actually, the rewards may be much greater than the risk you took. All the elements that made YMMF(W) such a success are there: an effusive instrumental driven by a propulsive percussion and peppered with enough addictive sax to power a Fleur East song; engaging and enthusiastic vocals that are as persuasive and compelling as the narrative thrust of the song; and it's infused with the sheer glee and love for what they are doing. What makes it even more amazing is that it is not just a cookie cutter replica of their previous track but a glorious moment of indicative pop euphoria in it's own right. Chanted backing harmonies add to the feel-good vibe of the song and that inveigling melodic chorus refrain will send a powerful endorphin rush to your brain of epic proportions (no doubt leaving you a little giddy and breathless as a result). It's exactly what the radio is missing out on at the moment - something that's fun and intoxicating; something that will leave you singing along long after the track is finished. Add to this a hoot of a video that sees our new fave four fellas take new chances in life (a particular fave is their all-in-white-boy-band-parody) and it's a whole package that leaves you more satisfied than eating a whole packet of jaffa cakes. Yup, it's that good. So jump in the deep end with the Polar Collective because, quite honestly, it doesn't get any better than this :)
