There's a lot to love about Mikey Wax. He's built his own army of fans through his interactive social media accounts, compelling songs and dazzling live performances. He's no stranger to penning a catchy hook with an irrepressible refrain. And most/least importantly, less than one second into the lyric video for his amazing track, Bottle of Jack, you can tell he looks mighty fine all suited and booted. I'm actually quite late to the party for this song - Bottle of Jack was actually released about 12 months ago. You can't keep a good song down, however, and it's a testament to Mikey's songwriting skills, his charming vocal delivery and that unforgettable chorus, that this particular slice of music keeps attracting new admirers on a daily basis. It's a deliciously evocative groove that insinuates itself into your cerebral cortex instantly, thanks to a simmering beat, vibrant guitar, elegant strings and dancing synth riffs. Mikey's voice weaves around this effervescent instrumental with buoyant ease as he narrates this tale of love, lust, devotion and that feeling you get when you simply can't get that certain someone out of your head. His falsetto takes the listener to smooth r'n'b infused heaven, and when he taps into his lower register he ably conveys his fervent need to be at one with his paramour. It's exquisitely constructed and beautifully presented, thanks to Mikey's addictive tones guiding us through his tangible emotions with a firm control of that sparkling melody. It's like cool water on a summer's day, an endorphin rush of pleasurable proportions, a dopamine boost that lingers long after the song has finished. It is exactly the type of ingratiating, satisfying pop song that the chart needs right now. Drake may give us One Dance but Mikey has given us music that will last the entire party.
