Having musical constants in my life gives me a bit of stability in a crazy, mixed up world. I first said hello (you fool, I love you) to Roxette in the balmy summer of 1989 when their international breakout hit, The Look, was all over radio and television. I've followed their career avidly since, and they've never failed to provide me with euphoric rock-infused, fist pumping uptempo anthems or tender, aching ballads that tug at your heartstrings. I mean, seriously, how Milk and Toast and Honey wasn't top ten for weeks in the UK back in 2001 is beyond me. Their new album, Good Karma, is full of beautiful pop treats and their latest single, Some Other Summer, is a perfectly timed release that shows they are still able to craft shimmering moments of musical majesty. It is an exquisite composition, set to lush, textured synths, a simmering rhythmic groove and swirling strings - all coalescing to provide an evocative soundtrack to the inspirational lyrics. Per and Marie sing of that feeling you have when your hopes/dreams/aspiration and/or fantasies fail to materialise as you might have wanted. They tell the listener that it is not about accepting failure but finding solace in the fact that time heals, this too shall pass and 'some other summer' is something to strive for. Like a big aural hug, this song soothes the soul and elevates the spirit. Roxette - you continue to bring the fireworks to your music. I salute you :)
