Kylie Minogue's contribution to disco this past 12 months has been, without doubt, a glorious testament to the enduring legacy of the genre. It started with the new seasonal standard 100 Degrees (with her sister Dannii). This then emerged from it's winter cocoon as a sparkling spring butterfly as the slightly rejigged It's Still Disco To Me (complete with sizzling remixes). Then over at Galavant, her guest appearance gave us the delicious Off With His Shirt - the most effusively camp she has been since Your Disco Needs You. It is fitting then that she ends the year with a radiant cover of Bee Gees Night Fever. It appears on the French edition of her new Snow Queen edition of Kylie Christmas and ooh la la, it is one delightful pop gem. Set to a compelling instrumental that keeps the architectural blueprint of the original while adding a contemporary shimmy with propulsive new beats and an effervescent synth vibe. It is a luscious wall of sound that suits Ms Minogue's ebullient tones wonderfully. Kylie sounds in her absolute element singing the indelible words, a sweet siren luring you to the dancefloor enslaved to her rhythmic groove. The higher register notes are disco decadence while when she taps into the lower register, there are some Jake Shears influences there that make this a seductive gem. When she sings "here I am, praying for this moment to last", she is sharing her impassioned call to arms with the world - and it is an invitation that is all too hard to resist. All the lovers will be intertwined with her new type of fever - a glorious anthem that is never too late to get the party started. It is magnificently done - and I wouldn't change a thing.
