Sunrise Beach - Tidal Romance

I haven't written about amazing alt-pop trio (and brother) Sunrise Beach in an age and a half, but that doesn't mean their music hasn't stayed with me. They write the type of music that has heartfelt lyrics, memorable melody and a textured wall of sound that brings a vitality to the narrative they sing. Their new, eponymous EP (link above) is the culmination of their creative efforts - a collection of visual and aural gems from the past few years. All of worthy of your time and attention. The most recent of these is Tidal Romance, a song that evokes memories of The Police and Modern Romance, yet is undeniably Sunrise Beach. Elegant, poetic lyrics paint vivid brush strokes, conjuring up images that dance in front of your eyes like shadows in the moonlight. The words are sung with an nuanced, explorative yearning - an expressive passion just as stirring as the story brought to life. This vocal, along with elegiac harmonies, are swathed in an effusive instrumental that accentuates the unfurling nature of the song. It is the thrill of the energetic percussion that dances with free abandon against an exhilarating strumming guitar that gives the song the frisson of anticipation and the unknown. It all coalesces to become an engaging pop production - the type of song that feels like it not only is the retroactive soundtrack to your own memories but the song you tuck away in your mind to be brought out when the latest adventure comes into your life. The visuals are just as satisfying as the song itself - a backdrop of organic nature as raw and emotive as the music is; a mini-movie of the first tentative steps of love that become more powerful and confident with each progressive movement. It is a reminder that talent will always win out over technology and trends. Emerge yourself in the blissful sounds of Sunrise Beach - you'll be glad you did.
