Peter Wilson - Shadows Of The Night

I've long admired ace pop singer, Peter Wilson. I love that he marches to the beat of his own creative drum, never afraid to wear his musical influences proudly yet always infusing his songs with his own perspective and personality. His commitment to providing heartfelt pop lyrics, wrapped in soaring melodies and irrepressible refrains is what keeps me returning to his discography (old and new) over and over again. So when he sings a song (his latest single, Shadows Of The Night) written by none other than disco idol and all round musical genius, Giorgio Moroder, I'm so giddy with excitement that I'm whizzing past 7th heaven, flying above cloud nine and reaching for the nirvana this glorious tune brings. Set to sumptuous synth chords (that remind of the whirling disco of Voulez Vous), glittering electro-effects that shine as if refracted from the disco ball spinning around, and an intoxicating percussive groove, Peter sings with seductive longing of the allure of the darkened hours of the burgeoning night. It all coalesces to craft an atmosphere that is a heady combination of that carefree attitude that salubrious corners of a nightclub can evoke, along with the thrill of desire that seems to compel your entire being to do thinks that seem sheer passionate madness in the bold light of day. Peter's gorgeous vocals make it all so palpable that you are pretty much ready to strap yourself down to a bed and scream "my safe word is YES PLEASE"! But, I digress... the Italoconnection mix is a lush concoction of reverence to the era of Studio 54 (you can almost hear Liza screaming "this is my jam" in the heart beat of the groove) with a contemporary shimmy that is all too hard to resist. This provocative composition wash over you and luxuriate in the fact that it will still sound this magical in twenty years time. Fads fade, but great music is forever.
