Darin – Hög

It is always a treat to get a new single from Swedish pop sensation Darin. For nearly 15 years he has treated us to album after album full of decadent grooves, mesmerising rhythms, contagious hooks and heartbreaking stories. For the past few years, like his luminary counterparts Eric Saade and Ola, he has focused on producing singles and albums in his native tongue but they are no less compelling, even if you may not fully understand the lyrics. His latest single, Hög, is an excellent example of how music breaks down language barriers and unites us in a common shimmy to the dance floor. The title translates as High and the narrative sees Darin explore how the influential power of love can give you a dopamine rush so powerful that you are feel like you are flying, soaring through the clear blue skies and acting in a way which makes your friends think you are crazy. The emotions aren't just in the words, however - they are living in every second of Darin's vocal thanks to the sense of frantic energy he conveys. They dance right out of your speakers thanks to an irrepressible melody and singalong refrain. The listener is swept up in the music and left spinning around and giddy, which is surely the point of the song if love can make you behave in this very manner. I say throw caution to the wind, get your freak on and embrace the insanity love engenders within us all.
