Benedict Cork - Funny How Things Change

From the opening notes of the stunning new single, Funny How Things Change, by Benedict Cork you realise you are listening to something special. The fluid blend of vocal and electronica merge together to craft an introductory melisma which makes it feel like you are entering church for a sermon. Only Mr Cork isn't here to preach - only to testify how life can suddenly become so unrecognisable from the future memory you have been living in that you have to pause and take a breath to reconcile with your new reality. Co-written with fellow singer songwriter Scott Quinn and producer Paul Whalley, the song is beautifully crafted and provides a mesmerising soundtrack to every romantic experience you've had where 'lovers turn to strangers in the blink of an eye' (as Benedict so eloquently sings). Accompanied by an emotive piano melody and sonorous guitar, Benedict sings with such soulful wisdom that you can feel every ounce of tender aching that fuels his performance. His seamless ability to move into falsetto, combined with that haunting middle 8, feels like a call to arms for lost souls everywhere seeking resolution to and redemption for their own relationship journeys. In that sense, the song becomes a salve - a healing aural hug that exists not to make things better but because it is too painful to not have something this beautiful exist in that personal world. This is pop music that will endure for through the ages, lovingly passed through stories and tears - a legacy which will last long after current music fads have faded away. Just gorgeous.
