It must be extremely satisfying to the duo of Justin and Justin, better known as Fly By Midnight, that each subsequent single release of theirs gets an increasing amount of critical acclaim and social media buzz. When Waiting Tables was announced (their second brand new single since their debut album Rerunning was released in November 2018), you could almost feel the crackling anticipation coursing through the world wide web. A tangible sense of excitement, however, does not the bills pay and Waiting Tables is as much a tale about the daily grind of funding these creative endeavours as it is an anthem for anyone who ever had a dream (yet remains indebted to that monthly pay cheque). A pop star lifestyle doesn't come cheap and neither does schlepping across the country to do gigs, raise your profile and get your art out there. Dressed up in their most Prince-esque synth dance track to date, the lads craft a stellar groove for you to get your shimmy on to. Whilst these contagious rhythms swirl, they are busy conjuring up the words to eloquently describe the juxtaposition between the urge to create and the very necessary things we do to make it happen. It's a rallying call to arms with a melodic hook and insatiable refrain. Fly By Midnight are one of the premiere purveyors of meaningful, emotive music out there and Waiting Tables is delivered with panache.
