Westlife - Dynamite
Pre-order Spectrum here (Amazon GB)
The re-emergence of Westlife has been one of the musical delights of 2019. The hugely successful vocal harmony group have demonstrated that they can exist in an ever changing pop marketplace, having scored two top 2 sales singles already this year in the UK alone. Their third, Dynamite (released to coincide with their triumphant tour The Twenty Tour hitting cinemas for your viewing pleasure on July 6th 2019), gives a further clue as to why their upcoming album, Spectrum (released in November 2019 as a celebration of their return and accomplishments throughout 2019) has a title that is so representative of their classic-meets-contemporary sound. Each song presented so far has showcased a different facet of the band - from the shimmering pop of Hello, My Love to the aching balladry of Better Man - and now this soaring summer anthem that is Dynamite; all ably curated by their partnership with co-writer Ed Sheeran and producer Steve Mac. This latest song is an absolute corker - it is a story all about falling in love and what the powerful emotion does to you and your view of the world around you. It begins with beguiling piano chords and a gorgeous, honest vocal from Shane that lights the fuse for the explosive pop crescendo which follows. As Mark's passionate performance of these poetic lyrics bubbles along with the ever-textured sound, it soon erupts into a glorious melange of music that buoys and caresses the lads decadent, euphoric harmonies perfectly. Pulsing percussion and sumptuous strings elevate the song and enable the listener to be immersed into every nuanced second. It lifts you higher than seventh heaven and, after that exhilarating key change coming out of the middle-8, you are soon singing along from cloud nine, with unfettered glee at being a part of something so deliciously satisfying. Sing loud, sing proud and be dynamite.
