There is no doubt in my mind that Swayday are the one boy band out there right now that are most skilled at balancing the elements of traditional boy band fare with a contemporary vibe. Their latest single, Disconnecting, may well be their most accomplished yet. They craft these expansive choruses, full of relatable emotion, and drench them in shimmering nu-pop instrumentals that accentuate the lyrics. The song is all about the pain of ever growing distance within a relationship and the anguish it causes when you can't seem to do anything to stop it. Anyone who has lived through this type of experience will recognise the tangible ache in Arthur's compelling vocal, a performance that works in symbiotic harmony with his band mates' instrumental. The hand clap groove and icy synths serve to represent the pulsing beat of your heart as your mind races over the impossible situation; meanwhile the sumptuously textured chorus adds in layered vocals, a percussive drumming and resonant chords that overlay each other in a way that signifies that these feelings just have to be let out into the world - they are too important to keep inside any longer.
