Video breakdown: Eric Saade ~ Hotter Than Fire

Oh Christmas has come early this year! Not only has young Eric produced a phenomenal pop album right at the end of the calendar year (read review here), but he's whipped out a rather sensational video to go with his blistering track, Hotter Than Fire. Here is what happens, frame by frame...

  • Eric is in a car again. I would have to go back and have a looksie to see if it is the same car he was in when he was parading around telling everyone to put their hearts in the air. He has the air of "drives like a loon on loon tablets" about him :D
  • The leather gloves are still omni-present though, leather glove fans :) Hurrah!
  • He pulls up outside some manky old dilapidated building with a broken window and an aging "Featuring Dev" sign on it. This is probably because the single features Dev.
  • Eric goes in to the darkened room. This is not advisable. It looks like a crime scene from Castle or some such show. It's the type of place you end up with a bag over your head and a ball in your mouth! How salubrious ;)
  • Luckily, eric just tosses his sunglasses over his shoulder and does some funky nifty dance moves. It's all very Michael Jackson esque and pleasing.
  • The rooms get better as he dances through them. One of them has some television screens in them. Dev pops up on these screens and does her chorusey bits. She has quite nice hair.
  • The camera pans between a new room which has some wine in and a dentist chair, and the Dev TV room. There is no cut. I've rewound a bit. Ooo this is all in one take. No mistakes then please Eric!!
  • Eric's had a bit of a sitdown in the dentist chair while the Dev bit has been going on. He needs a bit of a rest probably - i mean, he's done 2 albums, melodifestivalen and a tour this year. He's a man(boy) not a machine!!
  • Still, ever the professional, he's back on his feet as soon as the camera returns. He enters a room full of lamps where he does some more complex dancing. Let's face it, it's a higher level of dance routine than your average Steps video...
  • Blimey, how many rooms has this building got? Eric now has a boogie in a room with a film projector (how quaint). There is good hat grab screen grab at 2m09s as he shimmies right in front of the projector which means his shadow will have ruined the view for anyone watching.
  • It must be getting chilly because before leaving Film Room, Eric zips his jacket back up (boo, take it off, etc) but throws his trilby away. He has a scant disregard for his accessories. I feel like running in to the building and bagging myself some sunnies and a hat :)
  • At 2m30s, lets just marvel at the complexity of what Eric does, in one take - jumping on the table, fancy footwork and then some gravity defying moves. It's mightily impressive, utterly flawless, totally precise. Tremendulent.
  • At around the 3m point, there are more death defying gravity stunts from Eric and as he looms into the screen, I can't help but think this would make a magnificent 3D video...
  • Eric struts his way back through all the rooms with a manly confidence that is quite alluring...
  • It all comes to an end with a close up of Eric (RAR), and him doing one final matrix style leap before putting his glove to the camera and fade to black.
  • Literally breathtaking :)

  1. Hi there, love your blog, and I've been a follower for over a year now. I have to say though that I wholeheartedly disagree with your review of Eric's new video for Hotter Than Fire. I expected a LOT more, and I really don't think it's very good. I love the song and it has so much energy... considering how well Eric can dance, I think this stop-motion style of filming really undermines his moves. And why only him? This song is perfect for big group choreography (Lady GaGa style). Finally, I was very disappointed that Dev was relegated to being inside the TV screen the entire time. I kept waiting for Eric to meet the REAL Dev in one of the rooms at the end and for them to dance together, but it never happened. Sorry, but this video is not going to help his cause to be more "popular" outside of Europe.

  2. As soon as I saw this video I thought to myself: Oh, people are so not going to like this. Because they won't understand it, and they expect something more traditional. Seems to be one of these things where people either love it or hate it. I'm strongly leaning towards love. I'm still discovering it, so to speak.

Mr. Fizzypop's video breakdown was enjoyable as always. Maybe it's my kind of humour. Salubrious? Tremendulent? Win.

    "JN from Chicago":
    - Dev just had her baby (congrats!), which means she was visibly pregnant when this was shot. I'm guessing that's the main reason she's featured the way she is. If we're lucky, we might get them doing the song live together sometime next year. Just wishful thinking from my part though, haven't read anything that would suggest that's actually in the making.

    - Financially Eric doesn't have the backing to make videos the way I suspect he would like to. This was made with the obvious help of a car company, and the inside-the-house footage was shot in Sweden in one day. However, if videos were his main objective, you might have gotten your wish, but everything I've read about Eric presents him as first and foremost a live artist, and he puts every cent/penny/krona he can spare into his stage performances, which at this point in time means his upcoming Pop Explosion Tour.
