Friday Playlist ~ New Music Spectacular!

There are a number of new songs that have been tantalising my ear drums for the past few weeks, but that I am hideously behind writing about. So! Here you go - a nice playlist of new and burgeoning acts to get your weekend started. Tremendulent!

  • The It Boys ~ Guys Don't Like Me: I love it when a band just seemingly comes from nowhere and emerges onto the music scene like an icy blast of fresh air. The It Boys are one of those bands and their blistering single Guys Don't Like Me is a punk-pop blaze through scintillating guitar riffs, propulsive drum beats and the clever hook that glues the song together of guys not liking them cos girls do. Check out the video above too as a great introduction to the guys energy and personalities :) Ones to watch for sure!
  • Caotico ~ Into The Beat: Fresh from fucking Tove Styrke's brains out, Caotico return with a nifty little pop ditty that continues to showcase their innate ability to match a catchy hook to a simmering, percolating beat. It's got rapidfire drum machines, a hand clap rhythm, gorgeous vocals and an absolutely soaring, spiffing chorus. It's the latter that not only fills you with absolute joy but sends your spirit soaring each time it comes on. Destroy my heart and soul indeed. Utterly and effortlessly cool. Amazing.
  • Mike & Cody ~ Hot In Herre: Nelly's appalling spelling aside, Mike & Cody take an incredibly well known song, manage to put their own mark on it - and manage to stand out as something special in a crowded market place. They replace the urban grooves with some 80s inspired synths and a simmering drum rhythm that blend seamlessly with some intense guitar and a spot on vocal performance that takes the song from sleazy to giving it an air of charming flirtation. Do stay tuned til 2m28 when some serious guitar bass kicks in and everything else just melts away. It all combines to give it a real down and dirty funky feel, almost Prince-esque. Stunning...
  • Kenneth Giles ~ Take It Easy: Sometimes you just need to pop on your best Saturday night out clothes, grab the one you love and shimmy like you've never shimmied before. Kenneth Giles (from touring production of Glee) provides the perfect frenetic soundtrack for just such an event. A kicking array of beats with the hooky refrain of "take it easy" driving the chorus home, it's throbbing with a vibrancy you would expect from the heady world of today's club-pop offerings. It's a rollicking raucous good time and defies you not to tap you feet and boogie along. Think Adam Rickett's I Breathe Again done 2012 style and you wouldn't be far wrong!!
  • Just Parker ~ Magic: I bloody love this song. It's like a one man boy band straight from the off - a rocking, zesty, guitar-pop feel to it, great vocal performance with just the right amount of inflection, emotion & passion to give it real personality, a stellar chorus that imbeds itself into your brain the second you hear it & a feel good vibe to the whole thing that leaves you smiling for the rest of the day. What is even more impressive is that the guy is really talented - in the link above, everything is put together, played and produced by himself. He knows how to put together a quality pop jam and it's got me itching for his debut album coming in March. Yay!
  • Divine Knights ~ Storm: Take a splash of Depeche Mode, a pinch of Pet Shop Boys and add in something incredibly special and you get the amazing single Storm from enigmatic new band on the block Divine Knights. Visually arresting with a hypnotic, mesmerising vocal, the boys have created a swirling, synth driven anthem that radiates with a dark & atmospheric vibe. It's incredibly intoxicating and draws the listener deep into the realm of the Divine Knights, leaving them breathless for more. There's a commitment to the song in terms of storytelling & the theatrical presentation through vocals, excellent production & visual imagery that intensifies the yearning, the melancholy of not being with the person you desire. When it all pauses for a breath at 2m20 then picks up again, it's both spinechilling and musically euphoric. Absolutely immense.
