Sometimes you just need a healthy refreshing blast in the face of bracing electro-pop to blow away those Monday morning blues. Luckily the internet is crawling with such concoctions, so I've hunted down some of the highest quality offerings for your listening pleasure.
Databoy ~ Summer Now EP:
Ah Cameron and Adam. A twosome that make up the glorious pop proposition, Databoy and who have thrilled me with songs like the tremendous Just Once, as well as their most recent release Mesmerize Me. They are preceding their debut album with this frankly quite brilliant EP that not only features two new versions of the aforementioned Just Once, but three spanking new tunes. And who doesn't enjoy something spanking and new?! The new versions of Just Once include a Rihanna-fied mash up of their own tune and You Da One as well as a sizzling & scintillating Audien remix that features a backing track so euphoric that you'll be waving your hands in the air like a ninny to the sterling chorus. Of the new tunes, Lotion (set over a percolating bouncy beat) is a deliciously seductive & suggestive tune ("Come rub some lotion on me") while 8 Ball is a more grinding, club driven tune with a refrain that sticks in your head for days. If this is what they are giving away for free, I can't wait for the album to drop. Magnifico!
Straight Up ~ Family:
I once called those frisky young fellas of Straight Up "the pre-cum of pop". How classy and elegant I can be. Sticking with that analogy, I would now say that the song Family is an out and out explosive pleasure moment of music that uplifts, inspires and makes you want to grab the one you love & shimmy... Set over a vibrant, midnight-at-the-club pulsating beat, it's a lyrical tale of how unifying & gratifying your self-made family can be. There's a glorious uplifting feel to the tune that shines forth from the jubilant delivery provided by Kid & Dandy that makes it not only the literal follow up to the rousing Show The World Tonight, but also the spiritual sequel. An absolute delight from start to finish, the disco princes of Sweden are ready for their coronation as they spread their message of love across the world. Gorgeous.
Kyle Brylin ~ Covered Up:
I feel I have been neglecting Kyle of late. I mean this is the boy that not only did the most inventive and hilarious (and unreleased) video for my Christmas blog, but also responded to my demand for a male cover of S&M. Mercifully I'm all caught up now and Kyle has popped two reimaginings of popular songs (that stand alongside his own impressive body, uh, of work!) up onto youtube. First (and above) is his energetic tribute to Britney's He About To Lose Me with it's rave-tastic intro, hypnotic bass & alluring vocal stylings. This is closely followed by Ke$ha's Blow (*insert own joke here*) - it's both frenzied and electrifying, with Kyle once again demonstrating that he fully understands pop music, loves pop music and allows this to shine forth in his delivery of his own (and others) tunes. If you haven't already, do spend time investigating Kyle's work. He's not just a snappy (un)dresser with killer hair :)
