Weekend Supplement ~ May The Fourth (Be With You, etc. Yawn): RuPaul's Pop Fierceness...

Following the sickening, nail biting two part finale of RuPaul's Drag Race over the past couple of weeks, I've found myself returning to Ru's last two albums more and more (Champion and Glamazon, available on iTunes and Amazon!) and ain't no need to "rupaulogise" for that, is there? Anyway, there are so many amazing tracks created by the Queen of Drag herself (ably assisted by foxy mcfox Lucian Piane) that i thought i'd pick out six of the best (oo-er) for those who shamefully aren't on board with these opuses of pop-dance magnificence. Be prepared to gag on the eleganza, etc...

  • 06 ~ Cover Girl: The call and refrain part of the chorus is so cleverly done that it is instantly infectious & effortlessly catchy from the very first listen. Pair this with lyrics that make you feel gorgeous as you strut your stuff regardless of where you are & it's a winner from start to finish...
  • 05 ~ Jealous Of My Boogie: You may say that you are not, but I always see you looking. Nuff said...
  • 04 ~ The Beginning: Trance tastic, Ibiza-esque rave married with pop sensibilities will have you on the dancefloor shimmying away in no time. All about how music can often make life seem so much better despite what trials and tribulations you face and who can't relate to that?! Amazellent...
  • 03 ~ Champion: Something RuPaul does incredibly well is create uplifting lyrics that are inspirational without being overbearing, patronising or twee. Champion (and next track on the list, Glamazon) are perfect examples of this and play almost like a daily affirmation ~ "you're a champion, the greatest of them all/champion, you're never gonna fall". Set over a seductive, mid-tempo instrumental and with addictive "oh oh oh" refrain, it's an accomplished piece of work that simply sparkles.
  • 02 ~ Glamazon: ~ Riddled with clever references to the tv show ("Sashay, shantay, heather on the runway"), it's a celebration of the queens that have given shape, shape, pose and face during the main stage presentation over the past 4 years. And rightly so, though obviously Sharon Needles remains the fiercest of the fierce :D
  • 01 ~ Main Event (Matt's 80s Pop Tribute): If RuPaul isn't invited to sing this S/A/W inspired remix at the Hit Factory Concert in July then there is something very wrong with the world. Giving PWL realness over a percolating beat and soaring chorus, it's one of the most joyous sounding songs you'll hear all the live long day. Tremendulent!
