Boy Band Update: Auryn, Jukeboxx & VoicePlay

As regular readers/perusers/nosy parkers of this blog will know, I love a good boy band I do. The popstar hair, the styled looks, the youthful exuberance, the dance routines, the harmonies, the punchy choruses. Sigh, it's all so delightful. And in the great boy band renaissance of 2011-2012, there are plenty to chose from. I shall catch up with some of my faves (in alphabetical order)...

Auryn ~ The One That Got Away:

I think I've written about Auryn this year more than any other act. Those boys are working their asses off! Anyway, recently for a Spanish tv show, they not only did a sparkling acoustic cover of their latest single, I Don't Think So, but got all dreamy on stools with a glorious cover version of Katy Perry's The One That Got Away. Set to some lovely piano playing, the boys deliver an emotive person with each getting a solo spot & joining together for a layered, sumptuous harmonised chorus. What I love about Auryn - and is evident in this song - is that they pour themselves into each performance, imbuing it with the right intensity & passion to make the song work. Stunning stuff. Do check out their promo for Camp Auryn too - 3 days in August with the lads sounds a winner to me :D

Jukeboxx ~ Black Heart:

The first forty seconds of the above video tell you everything about why you should already be smitten like a kitten with Jukeboxx. Effortlessly likeable personalities, hugely infectious energy & a natural enthusiasm for solid pop music. This translates well across to the next two minutes of the video as they do their own take on the bound-to-be-massive new song from Stooshe - Black Heart. Taking their strong individual vocals and blending them together deliciously, they create a timeless, almost doo-wop band feel to the song that just vibrates with charisma & charm. When they sing "Papa, she's the best I ever had", it's one of the most perfect moments in pop so far of 2012. Beautifully delivered, I cannot wait for more from this talented group of fellas. POP HEAVEN.

VoicePlay ~ The King Has Returned:

Colour me excited about VoicePlay. This vocal quintet from Orlando, Florida takes inspiration from Disney and creates this radiant tracks based on those well known melodies. They've now perfected this musical template and are weeks away from unleashing their triumphant debut album onto the world (Once Upon An Ever After - available July 10th). An excellent introduction to their sound is the buzz single The King Has Returned - a Lion King medley that (like all their songs) utilises only their voices to produce a layered backing track to complement their seamless harmonies. They easily shift from reverent (Circle of Life) to exuberant (Just Can't Wait To Be King) to malevolent cunning (Be Prepared), providing more of a complete theatrical experience than just your every day pop song. They also seem to infuse the song with a passion for what they do, which makes me eager to see them live. Download the track free by rightclicking the link and saving. So generous :D
