Single Selection: Danny, Mika & Pez...

Ooo Monday is a bugger isn't it? Whoever sang Monday Monday (so good to me) is a fool, a fool I tell you. Monday is evil and must be stopped. But then I fear we would all just take our Monday frustrations out on Tuesday, depose Tuesday, move onto Wednesday and so on until the world implodes. Basically, what I'm trying to say is I'm glad I had these new songs below to get me through Monday :) Huzzah!

Danny ~ Shake That Ass:

After the soaring, jubilant, euphoric feelgood pop jam of Amazing, you'd think that Danny Saucedo would follow it up with something similar. Well you'd think wrong. Never one to rest on his laurels, he'd rather get up and shake them instead - so returns with a sort-of-cover version of RobnRaz, except he's teamed up with Lazee instead. Basically what you get is an unapologetic romp through the appreciation of the female posterior with a fun chorus and a tongue in cheek video to go with it. It works mainly because it has summery season vibe along with a knowing wink to the audience, including them in the ridiculous party atmosphere. Not his most obvious single choice, but something different and ultimately a jolly good time. Now shake that ass for me, shake that ass for me...

Mika ~ Celebrate:

I adore Mika I do. Frankly, I was quite enjoying his French excursion (Elle Me Dit and particularly Christmas single Vive Le Vent were pure delights), but if he wants to return to the English language for his upcoming album Origin Of Love, that's a-ok with me. Celebrate is a fine return single with a perky, synth drenched beat that encourages everyone just to recognise the good things in their lives and wave their arms around in appreciation like a ninny. It's a manifesto that works as the song sparkles from start to finish - and though slightly more understated than previous singles, still shines like a bright star with it's insistent chorus and shimmying instrumental. More please, more more more!

Pez ~ At The Club:

"What if Gaga and Britney had a gay son" asked the promotional email sent around about Pez... Honestly, the answer is a sitcom in the making that could easily run for 7 seasons with numerous high profile guest stars :D But this question also led me to Pez, whose new single At The Club is a down and dirty dancefloor thumper. The beat grabs you from the get go and refuses to let go, while Pez's half spoken, half sung singing style works well against fuzzy synths and vibrating, pulsing electro effects. Sure the theme of the chorus isn't anything new but play this loud and proud in Gran Canaria at 3am & the island will be awash with guys ripping off their tops and flashing their abs. Add in some sickening dance mixes, lyrics about being accepted when you feel like an outsider and a throbbing video & how can you resist??!
