Video breakdown: Asher Monroe ~ Every Night

The song:

Having become acquainted with Aaron's music through the nigh on perfect percolicious pop ditty, Hello Baby, Every Night is an altogether different sort of affair. It's a far more assertive, organic pop-rock song that is powered forward by a driving beat, aggressive in your face guitar riffs & some pounding piano chords. What's key to the songs success is the confident, assured vocal from young Asher who ably demonstrates how versatile his voice can be. He taps into a very different type of performance than given on Hello Baby and it gives the song a real energy & sense of urgency that draws you into it's melodic charms. Bodes well for a diverse, exciting debut album...

The video:

  • Asher arrives in quite a fancy car. Well, it puts my Nissan Micra to shame anyway...
  • He's got that live stage look going on as his band start playing the song. I quite like his high-top sneakers...
  • At 33s I'm suddenly very thirsty and want a neuro sonic please. Refreshing!
  • Elsewhere, Asher is sitting on the back part of a chair, no doubt preparing for some fancy moves later on in the video.
  • There are some close ups of Asher, presumably designed to reflect the smoldering intensity of the song. It certainly does that, but the other added benefit is that you get a close up of Asher :P
  • CHAIR ALERT 1: At 1m04s, Asher drops from sitting position on the back of the chair to sitting position on the seat of the chair. Do not try this at home, particularly if you are a fella. In the interests of journalistic integrity, I tried it and there was some injuring that went on :P Plus I didn't look nearly as cool!
  • During the chorus, Asher gets his rock growl on with various performance poses. The best of these is if you pause at exactly 1m24s. Just so you know...
  • Ooo all the water is rising up from the stage as well as splashing off the drum kit. In slow motion. I love some arty shots in a video I do...
  • It is a well known fact that boy banders & male solo singers love an outstretched arm pose (see Take That, Backstreet Boys, Justin Timberlake et al). Add Asher Monroe to that list - see 1m46s.
  • CHAIR ALERT 2: Asher gets up from the chair and ably kicks it away behind him with his left leg. After the chair injury from earlier in this review, I decided to give this one a miss :D
  • More rocking out, more cool water effects, more yearning for a Neuro Sonic...
  • Some ace broken glass special effects just before that rocking middle 8 instrumental (that reminds me a tiny bit of Janet Jackson's Black Cat mixed with Christina's Fighter. Yes it's that bonza)
  • Because those back lights on stage are so blooming hot, Asher has taken his top off and has to cool himself down with water. As Tom Jones once said though, you can leave your hat on...
  • So all in all, a jolly good time. Huzzah!
