Single Selection: The Killers ~ Runaways

I have done two introductory paragraphs to the new Killers single. Let me know which one you like bestest of all...

A: 2004 was a very good year to me. It gave me Maroon 5, Scissor Sisters, Keane, BWO (quite late in the year) and of course The Killers (plus Deborah Gibson's Coloured Lights album came out very late 2003, so that soundtracked a lot of 2004 for me). Good times. M5, SS and Killers have sort of kept pace with each other over the years and all 3 acts have new albums out or due this year. M5 have already dazzled with Payphone, SS have told us it's Only The Horses and now The Killers are also on the return. YAY...

B: The summer has been a complete wash out in the UK (no PWL concert today? Booo!) but the music industry has grabbed it's todger, given it a few firm strokes and spurted out the finest of it's melodic loins to brighten up the proceedings. Hurrah for that I say. So far there have been sparkling singles from Kylie, Mika, P!nk, Pet Shop Boys, Little Mix (though to be fair it's more of a greatest hits of other people medley) and - to a lesser extent - George Michael. And yesterday, The Killers spaffed up their little piece of musical chuff into the mix. YAY...

Brandon Flowers is zipping up his Bruce Springsteen boots and getting back to his album two roots. Runaways is a brand new song from The Killers, seeing them return after a little break for B-Flo's solo effort (which was quite good indeed). I personally thought the Sam's Town album was a jolly fine album and the lead off single, When We Were Young, a soaring rousing anthemic treat. Runaways echoes back to those times - it's filled with raw guitar riffs, a thrusting drum beat and an impassioned, gritty vocal from Mr Flowers. Although the chorus proper doesn't hit for nearly two minutes, when it does it's like an icy blast of water to the face. Totally exhilarating - it's fist pumping, head rocking goodness with a refrain that has you yelling it at the top of your voice. Totally saturated in Americana, it's what The Killers do best and once again, I'm utterly smitten.
