Video Breakdown Catch Up Week ~ Day Two: The Killers - Runaways

Having amassed over a million views in five days, it's time to investigate what the ecky thump is going on in The Killers' latest slice of rousing Americana...

  • Ooo it's a night sky. Does anyone else want to start singing "here's a little ditty 'bout Jack and Diane" as soon as the song starts??!
  • SHOOTING STAR ALERT!! Make a wish :) Did it come true?! No, don't tell me or you will jinx yourself...
  • Brandon is having a little wander around on his own. He looks mighty fine to be honest with you. Us Mormon-raised boys always scrub up well :)
  • Brandon's quiff is quite admirable too. Bouyant without looking like there is too much hair gel in there. Plus I like how his black outfit is offset with some on-trend white hi-tops. I'm telling you all this because there isn't much else going on...
  • Night has turned to day in that unfeasibly quick time lapse photography way - the type they used in the opening credits of The X-Files. Brandon is enjoying his memories and has a little smile to himself (53s)...
  • Ooo we are now driving down a road at night. It seems quite fast, so I hope we're not breaking the law. The headlights look like massive yellow boobs bouncing off the tarmac!
  • 1m18s - the rest of the band show up, which instantly makes him more giving than Adam Levine featuring Maroon 5 :D
  • By 1m53s, it's like you've just been watching the band on Top Of The Pops (God rest it's soul) for the past 30 seconds. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but not the most riveting video.
  • (What does redeem the lack of action is delicate little B-Flo pouring his heart and soul into bringing the lyrics to life. Lust in my heart and I don't give a damn)
  • As that delayed but hugely gratifying chorus kicks in, some red neon lights up the boys set. I'm particularly amused in a childish way, that Brandon's pole has gone a throbbing red :P
  • 2m20s - it's VEGAS! As synonymous with The Killers as Somebody Told Me will always be. Perhaps it's a metaphorical representation of where one could run away to fulfil one's dreams. At least it's not as cliched as NYC or LA. And Bunheads has made it popular as a place to runaway FROM!!
  • 2m40s - lots of blurry swipe effects! Remember when you were young (if you are as old as me) and it was really exciting that you could edit a home video with a star wipe?! It's just like that. Vintage :)
  • Lots of band playing and then the driving too fast road appears as the floating roof to their studio rehearsal space. Spooky!
  • I like to think that this back to basics video is Brandon's way of providing a visual realisation to the subject of his song that he doesn't need any distractions, it's all about staying put and fulfilling one's dreams with the person you love. God I'm deep.
Tomorrow - a Madonna-Nicki-Gwen threeway!!
