Daniel Oliver is a talent so huge that he can't be confined to his native Iceland. He's now sharing his fine fine song, DJ Blow My Speakers, with the good folk of Sweden (home of amazing pop music) before launching his career across the rest of an eagerly waiting world. Let me tell you why Daniel Oliver will be the name on everyone's lips by the end of the year...
- He's quite pleasing to look at - what with piercing eyes, immaculate eyebrows, cheekbones to die for and a lustrous quiff, I can quite easily see Mr Oliver adorning many a wall/screensaver over the coming months...
- He knows how to create a corker of a pop song ~ DJ... is an instantly throbbing, pulsating tune filled with fuzzy synths, scintillating beats, ibiza-esque rave elements & a rhtyhmic pace that ebbs & flows to meet the needs of the song. Overall, it's a rather exhilarating & thrilling experience. (PS - imagine the remixes. JUST IMAGINE!!)
- Melody is his bff - dance music can be quite a stark, full on experience that sometimes doesn't translate well from the sweaty, arms aloft in the air, sticky floor confines of the coolest club. To cross genres over to a pop audience requires a solid melody that anchors the tune. Daniel provides a great chorus with the infinitely catchy titular refrain, while his semi-spoken/semi-sung verses are a melliflous delight.
- Lyrically he's a clever chappy ~ Listen carefully, because the words to DJ Blow My Speakers are part of the musical alchemy that brings the song to life. Not only do they accurately describe that feeling of wanting to be fully immersed in the music, so you are at one with the thrusting beats, but it gets a bit saucy and suggestive with it too... "Blood is rushing/face is glowing/.../trying not to show/I ache for you to blow my (blow my, blow my)..." Amazing.
- A vocal treat - One of the smoothest, most responsive pop vocals I've heard in some time. Daniel easily flows from a deeper, more resonant tone to alluring falsetto without skipping a bit. It gives the song some nuance & intricacy that is hard to resist :)
