Single Selection (& Suggestion): Auryn ~ Me Gusta
Those Auryn boys just seem to go from strength to strength. Their debut album, Endless Road 7058, spawned 5 massive singles. Heartbreaker, the lead single from album two has danced it's way onto Spanish radio and into clubs (I must have heard the remix at least 5 times at the gay bars in Spain last week!). And said album number two, AntiHeroes, has flown off the shelves in their native homeland. So of course now it's onto single number two from the opus - and they've chosen the ever so delightful Me Gusta. Penned by Vanesa Martin especially for those lovely Auryn chaps (and meaning "I Like"), it's a gentle, acoustic guitar driven ballad that really lets the boys individual voices shine out - both during solo parts and when they do their exquisite harmonies. They perform the song with such delicate understanding & nuanced fervor that, whether you understand Spanish or not, the emotions of the song are clearly delineated for all - there are no language barriers here, it's all about the tender love. The listener is drawn into the song & swept away once more with feeling. What the song also does it showcase how lyrics, harmonies and mellifluous melodies can shine through in the simplest, most beautiful of settings (the video should absolutely mirror this - nothing fancy needed here. Would be nice to have the lads back in suits & just letting themselves becoming immersed in the song). It's classic song construction that is timeless and heartwarming. It will no doubt continue to charm their legion of screaming fans across Spain (and an English version would no doubt broaden their fanbase in the UK)...
... talking of which, if the boys and their team are considering what to have as single number three from the album, then they could do a lot worse than the sparkling and percolating gem that is Breathe Your Fire. Their most international sounding song since the Ruth Lorenzo penned debut (Breathe Into The Light), it could easily launch them as a bonafide, global boyband (indeed, their Spanish accents & sensibilities are what will set them aside from acts like One Direction, The Wanted and Big Time Rush). It's a solid dance meets pop track with an Ibiza-esque vibe to it, crescendoing synths, a massive fuck off chorus that sledgehammers it's way into your synapses & a beat that consumes your entire being. Resistance is futile with this song because just one listen and you will be solidly hooked. Euphoric and triumphant all at once. I fully expect a big party anthem video with everyone having a good time - and some wicked cool dance routines to the chorus. Don't let me down boys :)
